Role Overview
This Specialist Clinical Pharmacist role in Mental Health services, North‑East Fife, provides a unique opportunity to manage a caseload of patients within inpatient and outpatient settings and to develop medication governance for high‑risk medicines. You will demonstrate pharmacy expertise in the safety of prescribing, administration, and governance of medicines and support multidisciplinary teams in delivering safe, appropriate, and clinically effective care.
Key Responsibilities
Provide specialist pharmacy advice and support to patients, carers, and multidisciplinary teams in inpatient and outpatient mental health settings.
Develop and maintain medication governance for high‑risk medicines within inpatient mental health services.
Work closely with community mental health teams, primary care and community pharmacies to ensure patient‑centred, seamless care.
Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives and educational supervision of pharmacy staff and the wider multidisciplinary team.
Participate in peer‑support networks for independent prescribers and specialist‑interest pharmacists.
Qualifications and Experience
Graduate pharmacist with experience in mental health services preferred.
Independent prescribing qualification, or a willingness to undertake training to become an independent prescriber, is essential.
Demonstrated knowledge of medication safety, governance and clinical pharmacy practice.
Experience of working within multidisciplinary teams in a mental health or community pharmacy setting is desirable.
Location
Stratheden Hospital, Cupar. Occasional travel throughout Fife to meet service demand.
Working Hours and Pay
Full‑time, 36 hours per week (reduced from 37 hours under the NHS Agenda for Change banding). Part‑time hours will be paid pro‑rata. The hourly rate will be increased accordingly.
Employment Conditions
Member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme required prior to appointment. This post is subject to the NHS Agenda for Change pay banding.
