HSE Officer
Greyhound Recycling
Dublin | Waste & Recycling Operations | Full-time
Let's be clear about this role.
We are not looking for a clipboard carrier.
We are not looking for someone who hides behind policy.
We are not looking for an HSE Officer who needs the job explained to them.
We are looking for a calm, credible, operationally switched-on HSE professional who understands how safety really works in the waste and recycling industry.
The role
As HSE Officer at Greyhound Recycling, you will sit at the intersection of people, plant, vehicles, and environmental responsibility.
Our sites are busy, physical, fast-moving environments. Heavy plant, HGVs, MRF operations, conveyors, balers, skip yards, traffic management, fire risk, lithium batteries, combustible materials. This is real work, not theory.
Your role is to keep people safe while the operation keeps moving.
You will be visible on the floor, respected by operators, trusted by supervisors, and credible with senior management and regulators.
What good looks like
You bring calm authority, not noise.
You solve problems rather than escalating them.
You challenge unsafe behaviour directly, professionally, and fairly.
You understand that paperwork supports safety, but never replaces it.
You will:
* Actively manage health, safety, and environmental risk across waste and recycling operations
* Develop and maintain practical risk assessments and SOPs that people actually follow
* Lead incident investigations that are fair, thorough, and focused on prevention
* Deliver clear, relevant training and toolbox talks
* Support supervisors and managers to
own
safety on their shifts
* Prepare for and manage inspections and audits with confidence
* Engage constructively with regulators and external stakeholders
* Continuously improve standards without disrupting operations unnecessarily
What you bring
You already understand this industry. You do not need a long induction to grasp where the risks are.
You have:
* Proven HSE experience in waste, recycling, heavy industry, logistics, construction, or similar high-risk environments
* Strong working knowledge of Irish health, safety, and environmental legislation
* The confidence to operate on live sites with heavy plant and vehicle movements
* The judgement to know when to stand firm and when to adapt
* The communication skills to influence people at every level of the business
Most importantly, you have credibility. People listen to you because you make sense.
Cultural fit matters here
At Greyhound Recycling, how you work matters as much as what you know.
You are:
* Generous
with your time, knowledge, and support
* Grounded
and straight-talking, with no ego
* Optimistic
about improving safety standards without drama
* Resourceful
in finding solutions that work in the real world
You care about people, the business, and the environment in equal measure.
Why join Greyhound Recycling
This is a role with influence. You will not be parked in an office or ignored on site.
You will be trusted to do the job properly, supported by leadership, and given the space to build a safety culture that actually lasts.
If you are serious about HSE and serious about operations, this role will suit you.
