School of Nursing, Psychotherapy & Community Health

The School of Nursing, Psychotherapy and Community Health leads in advancing population and patient health, inclusion and well-being through education, research, practice, and policy development. Our multi-disciplinary and multi-professional School has gained national and international recognition for its diverse range of innovative undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional development programmes across Nursing, Psychotherapy and Community Health. The programmes currently offered are:

· B.Sc. in Nursing across four disciplinary areas: Children’s and General Integrated Nursing, General Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, and Intellectual Disability Nursing

· Higher Diploma (Post-Registration) in Children’s Nursing

· B.Sc. in Health and Society

· Grad Dip/M.Sc. in Child and Family Health and Wellbeing

· Grad Dip/M.Sc. in Health and Social Inclusion

· Grad Dip/M.Sc. in Specialist Nursing

· M.Sc. in Advanced Nursing Practice (Saudi Arabia)

· M.Sc. and Doctorate in Psychotherapy

· Professional Diploma in Clinical Supervision

· Stand-alone professional development modules for healthcare practitioners

The School’s portfolio of research inquiry delves into every aspect of 21st century health and well-being across nursing, community health, psychotherapy, and societal health innovations, to improve the health, inclusion, and well-being for everyone in society.

Role Profile:

The School is seeking to recruit a temporary (3 year) position at the level of Assistant Professor in Intellectual Disability. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and modules related to intellectual disability nursing through research-led teaching, student mentoring and support, and supervision of student projects and research. The successful candidate will also be expected to support programme administration, clinical placements, research supervision and service and external engagement activities of the School and University. The post is based on the Glasnevin Campus and the candidate will report to the Head of School.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not restricted to, the following:

Teaching and Learning

To contribute to the teaching and learning activity of the School by:

* Coordinating and delivering modules in a manner consistent with the highest academic standards;
* Using a wide range of teaching and assessment methodologies which foster a deep approach to learning and which equip students with the skills and attributes needed to be lifelong learners;
* Working proactively to enhance and enrich existing modules and programmes;
* Contributing to the design and development of new modules and programmes;
* Providing research supervision for taught postgraduate students.

Research and Scholarship

To contribute to the research agenda and profile of the School by:

* Having clearly articulated research interests and research profile development plans;
* Publishing new ideas and findings in high impact international journals;
* Achieving measurable impact via citations;
* Generating research income to support research initiatives;
* Contributing to research activities such as conferences, seminars etc.;
* Attracting and supervising postgraduate research students;
* Contributing to the research culture and environment in the School and, where appropriate, working collaboratively on research initiatives.

Service and Contribution to the University and Society

To contribute to the leadership, management and administration of the School by:

* Contributing proactively to relevant School and University committees, working groups and meetings;
* Actively engaging in accreditation-related activities;
* Delivering management and school roles to a high standard;
* Representing the School in activities such as marketing and student recruitment;
* Developing relationships with stakeholders within and outside the University;
* Engaging in external academic, enterprise, professional, public sector and community activities to enhance the reputation and impact of the School.

Qualifications and Experience

* Applicants will be qualified to a post-graduate level in a relevant field.
* Applicants will have completed, be undertaking, or be committed to undertaking a PhD/Doctorate in a relevant field. If this is not completed or underway candidates are expected to describe that commitment in their application.
* Applicants must be registered or be eligible to register as an Intellectual Disability Nurse in the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
* Demonstrate evidence of a strong clinical background in intellectual disability nursing.
* Previous teaching experience in an academic setting or in a service setting is required.
* Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, along with evidence of successful teamwork and a collaborative and collegial approach.
* Demonstrate ability to develop excellent work relationships with colleagues both in the university and healthcare/service environments.

The successful candidate will ideally possess the following:

* Evidence of conducting research and dissemination with a track record of peer-reviewed publications.
* Evidence of contributing to funded research projects and/or attracting funding from competitive funding schemes.
* Registration, or eligibility to register on the General Nursing division with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland or hold additional registrations in other areas of nursing.
* Registration, or eligibility to register on the Nurse Tutor’s division with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland or hold a recognised teaching and learning qualification.

The postholder will be required to undertake the following essential compliance training:

* Orientation
* Health & Safety
* Data Protection (GDPR)
* Cyber Security Awareness
* Performance Review & Development (PRD) (People Managers only)
* AI Literacy

Other training may need to be undertaken when required.

Salary Scale:

*Candidates must have completed a PhD to be considered for this scale.

Appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and in line with current Government pay policy

Remote Working Policy

From the 1st of November 2024, DCU will operate its newly agreed Remote Working Policy. Employees may be approved for up to 2 days of remote working per week (or an appropriate pro rata amount for those part time). Any remote working arrangement will be reflective of the predominant on-campus working environment and the core University value of 'Student Focused'. Employees will be based on campus for the majority of their working week to ensure a sustained on campus engagement and experience. The terms of the remote working policy will apply.
