Special Olympics Ireland is a year-round sports training and competition programme for people with an intellectual disability. Special Olympics changes lives in so many different ways, enabling people with an intellectual disability to achieve and win not only in sport but in life too. In June 2026, the Special Olympics Ireland Summer Games will take place in Dublin. The Games will involve 1,200 athletes, who qualified from regional competitions, participating across 12 sports, and the Motor Activities Training Programme. The Games will include an Opening Ceremony, a Young Athletes Festival and a Healthy Athlete programme. Special Olympics will be recruiting 2,000 volunteers to support the planning and delivery of the Games. We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to experience the joy of working with our volunteers and to contribute to and witness our incredible athletes perform in their sport. We wish to recruit an individual to support the training of the volunteers who will run the Games. The person appointed to the role will assist the Training Manager in the planning, co-ordination, communication and implementation of activities, policies and procedures related to the training of volunteers that will work on the 2026 Special Olympics Ireland Games. The job is a full time role which will involve some evening and weekend work. The contract duration will be until 30 June 2026. Duties and Responsibilities: Play an active role in the development of training materials, online and in-person training modules, working with other Games functional managers. Support the design of the Volunteer Training Plan for the Games, including timetabling, material preparation, venue bookings and communications to volunteers. Assess, plan and implement identified training opportunities on an e-learning platform. Provide support in the area of skill-specific volunteer training. Assist in the planning and coordination of the operational aspects of the Volunteer Training Plan. Manage and maintain the Games volunteer training records. Liaise with organisations such as the business community, government/statutory and voluntary organisations that sign up to support the Games to support Games training needs. Support the roll out of the volunteer programme for the Games when training demands reduce closer to the Games. Carry out all administration tasks related to the role. Complete a Training After Action report post Games. Undertake any other assignments as may reasonably be requested. Requirements Essential Experience in training development, delivery, assessment and evaluation Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 products, especially MS Teams, SharePoint files, Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Familiarity with databases and database management, customer relationships management (CRM) software. Experience developing e-learning materials and working with online learning platforms. Excellent administration skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Strong organisational and problem-solving skills The ability to effectively plan and manage multiple tasks and set priorities Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. Strong leadership and motivational skills are essential to build and retain effective teams of volunteers across the Games. Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team Desirable A professional qualification in Training & Development at Level 6 (minimum) on the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent Experience in online course development and software such as Articulate360 Familiarity with Moodle based Learning Management system Knowledge and experience of event and/or volunteer management would be advantageous. The successful candidate must hold a full clean driving licence and own car/or access to a car.
