Contract
Permanent, full‑time or part‑time with relief contracts available. Salary €35,070 to €42,440 pro rata per annum, subject to long service increments. Annual leave 30 days pro rata per annum (10.7% of hours for relief contracts).
Overview of the Post
The role is part of the Respite and Home Support team, delivering after‑school respite programmes across Carlow and Kilkenny. Working closely with children and families, you will apply a person‑centred approach to meet identified needs and foster independence.
Overview of Duties
Create an inclusive atmosphere that promotes each child’s participation and decision‑making.
Implement agreed programmes of care, ensuring dignity and respect for all individuals.
Support day‑to‑day activities and community engagement, reflecting each child’s choice and interests.
Assist with therapy, education, and related services within the respite setting.
Ensure special equipment is used appropriately and maintained.
Manage health and medical needs, providing a healthy diet that accommodates special requirements.
Maintain sensitivity while working closely with families and service users.
Provide personal and intimate care assistance as needed.
Accompany children on leisure activities and community outings, fostering local community involvement.
Essential Criteria
Formal qualification in Health Care (FETAC/QQI Level 5, NVQ, City and Guilds).
Minimum one year of experience working with children.
Experience in a disability service.
Full manual driving licence and access to own transport.
Desirable Criteria
Commitment to partnership working with parents/carers and children.
Experience with teenagers who may present challenges.
