Dublin Port Company is a State-owned commercial entity with responsibility for the development and operation of Dublin Port. Dublin Port is the busiest port in Ireland, with approximately 16,500 vessel movements annually and 75% of all cargo transported via Ro-Ro and Bulk Liquid modes.The Engineering Function is responsible for managing critical infrastructure across the 260-hectare estate, including marine assets, quay walls, petroleum offloading systems, aids to navigation, utilities, and electrical distribution and emergency power systems.
The Maintenance Technician will support the day-to-day operations of the Engineering Function who deliver high-quality maintenance and inspection services on a 24/7/365 basis.This role is essential to ensuring the continuous availability of key infrastructure and systems across the port. Technicians will work as part of a self-managed shift team, reporting to Technical Supervisors, and will interface with the wider maintenance group. Responsibilities include reactive, planned, and preventive maintenance of both critical and non-critical operational assets. These assets include, but are not limited to: ro-ro ramps, tugs, pilot boats, aids to navigation, firefighting systems, backup generators, and systems supporting sustainable resource use such as energy and water. The role requires the use of computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other relevant software to ensure efficient and effective service delivery. Technicians will operate to the highest safety and environmental standards, contributing to a reliable, cost-effective, and customer-focused maintenance service.
Key Responsibilities:
All work carried out by Technicians must be completed in a safe manner reflecting the ever increasing environmental, health and safety requirements. Use of risk assessments and method statements are an absolute and this position of responsibility must assist in the drafting of same together with the future development of enhanced procedures.
Maintenance & Inspection of Critical Plant & Equipment
This includes but is not limited to ro-ro ramps, tugs, pilot boats, aids to navigation, firefighting systems, back-up generators and Technicians will be responsible to assist in ensuring that the optimum cost effective maintenance regime is in place, practiced and reported.
People
Technicians are to positively interface with both internal and external customers and to synergistically interact with all members of the maintenance team and other employees of DPC. Proactive communication specifically with Supervisors in either one to one or through mobile/email scenarios is an important requirement of this position.
General
A proactive self-driven continuous improvement style, critically assessing and then developing enhanced solutions to operation and maintenance of equipment and processes is necessary.
Driving the company's sustainability agenda is a top priority and resource management is therefore an important focus.
Commitment to on-going change is essential and continuous input to the continuous use development and optimisation of the CMMS and other relevant systems is expected.
Essential qualifications and experience:
* Time served mechanical trade (QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft) in Mechanical Automation and Maintenance Fitting, Heavy Vehicle Mechanics, Construction Plant Fitting, or equivalent.
* Competency in fabrication, welding, turning, milling, grinding.
* Experience in maintenance and operations of motors, gearbox, water pumps, fans, vacuum pumps, and associated distribution pipe work.
* Working knowledge of electro hydraulic systems.
* Basic knowledge of electrical process control systems with experience in an industrial environment.
* Good understanding of H&S statutory requirements, responsibilities and obligations.
* Planning and Organising - plans and organises tasks and work responsibilities to achieve business objectives.
* Decision making - Uses sound judgement to make good decisions based on analysis of information gathered. Considers all relevant facts and alternatives before deciding on the most appropriate action.
* Communication - Expresses thoughts and ideas in a clear and concise way.
