Job Description
The Staff Interaction Designer plays a key role in shaping innovative digital interface platforms for medical devices and systems by collaborating with Marketing, R&D, and cross-functional teams. As part of the User Experience Design (UXD) team, they apply user research, technical design, and critical thinking to create end-to-end user experiences that balance user needs, business goals, and technological constraints across projects—from cloud software to embedded device interfaces. This position requires strong collaboration, communication, mentoring, and leadership skills, along with the ability to influence and evangelize user experience within the organization. Additionally, the role involves managing project timelines, personnel, and strategic trade-offs while contributing to the development of UXD talent and fostering innovation within the MMS business unit.
The Staff Interaction Designer collaborates with Marketing and R&D team members, applying user research methodologies and technical design skills to generate insights and concepts that lead to the development of digital interface product platforms for innovative medical devices and systems. The designer will work with multi-disciplinary teams to apply critical thinking to short- and long-term design directions and will deliver innovative, end-to-end user experiences that optimise user needs, business goals, and technological realities for each project. Projects include cloud-based software, knowledge portals, embedded medical device software, hardware, and medical disposables. The role requires professionalism, communication, mentoring, and influencing skills to work effectively with cross-functional internal collaborators. The ability to evangelise user experience work and to affect leadership is crucial. On the tactical level, the designer will maintain deliverable schedules, track personnel assignments, and drive trade-offs for Next Generation design work streams. Growing and mentoring UXD talent to enhance organisational strength is an essential aspect of this role. The User Interaction Design function is part of the User Experience Design Team (UXD) within the MMS Business unit, focusing on innovation across product platforms including Dispensing Technologies and Infusion Systems.
Main Responsibilities
* Drive and apply user-centred, efficient design processes while working with cross-functional teams on multiple matrixed work streams.
* Manage, track, negotiate trade-offs, and report UX metrics for projects.
* Lead regular design reviews, demonstrations, and collaboration with internal and external teams.
* Build relationships with cross-functional leaders to prepare the team for future needs (hiring, training, etc.).
* Guide developers in using UX methods, including design language, frameworks, and principles.
* Deliver and manage UI specifications, wireframes, workflows, and prototypes (low- and high-fidelity) and other outputs.
* Foster positive cross-team relationships through leadership, mentoring, and advocacy of UX early in projects.
About You
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in UX/UI Design, HCI, or related field.
* 7–9 years of relevant experience in an interaction/visual design leadership role.
* Track record designing software and hardware in fast-paced, collaborative environments.
* 5+ years of Interaction Design experience in a regulated industry (medical preferred).
* Strong ability to communicate design data, proposals, and specifications clearly to inspire stakeholders.
* Ability to critique designs and translate customer feedback into strong design decisions.
* Proficiency in design tools (Axure, Figma, InVision, Adobe CC, Jira, Kanban, MS Project, etc.).
* Understanding of responsive design, cross-platform development, and app frameworks.
* Ability to apply a company design language guide and ensure consistent application with strong design thinking.
* Experience collaborating with developers to implement designs, reduce rework, and improve outcomes.
* Experience in Agile/SCRUM environments and interaction/visual design in healthcare tech.
* Well-organized, self-directed, and capable of managing multiple complex projects.
* Experience with the healthcare field and medical devices.
* Online portfolio required.
* Open to 10–15% travel, including international travel.
Compensation and Location
Compensation range: €80,000 to €95,000 per year.
