Roughan & O’Donovan (ROD) is looking to recruit an ecologist with two to five years’ relevant experience for a permanent role within our expanding environment and ecology team. The role will be based in our Cork officeJob type: PermanentLocation: CorkAbout the roleYou will work in an integrated team of ecologists, environmental scientists, planners and engineers and assist in the assessment and delivery of a range of projects, including ecological management and monitoring, rail, roads, greenways, buildings and bridges.Our environment and ecology team leads the delivery of environmental planning services to clients across Ireland and UK.Responsibilities and Qualificationsguiding clients through complex environmental legislation and regulationadopting strategies to mitigate and manage planning risksupporting the consultation and stakeholder engagement processWest Cork Greenway – Skibbereen Sectionstechnical reporting (Ecological Impact Assessments and Appropriate Assessments)consultation with stakeholders and prescribed bodiesoverseeing the implementation of mitigation measures and ecological enhancementsDegree in ecology or a related biological/environmental science subject with an ecological component (Level 8 qualification in the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent)Two to five years’ experience in ecological/planning consultancyMembership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or equivalentFamiliarity with relevant Irish and European legislation e.g. Habitats Directive, Birds Directive, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Directive, Birds and Natural Habitats RegulationsExperience in preparing Appropriate Assessment Screening Reports, Natura Impact Statements, Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) Biodiversity Chapters and Ecological Impact AssessmentsGood field skills and a keen interest in and understanding of Irish wildlifeDemonstrated field survey experience in ecology e.g. habitat classification (Fossitt), badger, otter, bat, bird and invasive species surveysExcellent communication and IT skills, with the ability to record data efficiently and methodicallyA strong work ethic and a client-focused approachGood interpersonal and teamwork skillsPhysically fit and willing to undertake fieldwork in remote areasFluency/high level of proficiency in spoken and written EnglishFull clean driving licenceA postgraduate qualification in a relevant ecological discipline that includes practical experienceExperience using GIS systems e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS and/or othersBenefitsWe offer health and wellbeing packages, flexible working and life-event supports, so whatever challenges life may bring, you can feel secure in the knowledge that you will be taken care of.Equal OpportunityRoughan & O’Donovan is an equal opportunity employer.
