1. Job Purpose:

The Mechanical & Electrical Engineer is responsible for the proactive and reactive maintenance, optimisation, and improvement of all mechanical and electrical plant, equipment, aand systems within our food manufacturing facility. This role is crucial for ensuring the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of production lines, adhering to stringent food safety, quality, and hygiene standards, and contributing to the overall operational excellence of the plant.

2. Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance & Repair:

* Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PPM) on all mechanical and electrical equipment, including but not limited to: conveyors, motors, mixers, ovens, packaging machinery, sensors, and control panels.
* Respond promptly to breakdowns and diagnose faults accurately using a logical and systematic approach.
* Troubleshoot and rectify electrical faults, including wiring, circuits, control systems, and instrumentation.

Operational Efficiency & Improvement:

* Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability, reduce energy consumption, and improve overall operational efficiency.
* Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) of equipment failures to prevent recurrence.
* Assist in the optimisation of production processes through engineering solutions.
* Contribute to capital expenditure projects, including equipment selection, installation, and commissioning.

Health, Safety & Food Safety:

* Adhere strictly to all company health and safety policies and procedures
* Ensure all engineering activities comply with relevant food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP, BRC, IFS) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Technical Support & Documentation:

* Provide technical support and guidance to production operators on equipment operation and basic troubleshooting.
* Maintain and update engineering drawings, manuals, and technical documentation.

Teamwork & Communication:

* Collaborate effectively with production, quality, and other departments to achieve operational goals.
* Communicate clearly and concisely with colleagues and management regarding plant status, issues, and progress.

3. Qualifications & Experience:

* Education:
* Minimum of a recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline (e.g., Degree, HNC/HND, City & Guilds, FETAC Level 6/7 equivalent).
* Apprenticeship in a relevant trade (e.g., Mechanical Fitter, Electrician) is highly desirable.
* Experience:
* Proven experience (typically 3+ years) as a Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineer/Technician in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, preferably within the food or beverage industry.
* Demonstrable experience with preventative and reactive maintenance of industrial machinery.
* Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills for both mechanical and electrical systems.

4. Skills & Attributes:

* Technical Proficiency:
* Strong knowledge of electrical systems, control circuits, motors, VSDs, and instrumentation.
* Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
* Problem-Solving:
* Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a logical approach to fault diagnosis.
* Ability to work under pressure and make sound decisions in critical situations.
* Communication & Interpersonal:
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
* Good interpersonal skills for interacting with colleagues at all levels.
* Work Ethic:
* Self-motivated, proactive, and results-oriented.
* Attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality workmanship.

5. Working Conditions:

* The role may involve working in a production environment which can be noisy, and may require working at heights or in confined spaces.
