Position: Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) – Aged Care – Kilkenny

Location: Permanent - On site / Kilkenny

Job type: – Immediate Start

Salary Range: up to €60,000 - €85,000 (DOE)

Our client is a community-based organisation committed to providing a quality person centred service and high standard of living to care of the elderly.

Purpose of the post: To ensure that the centre provides the highest standards of person-centred care to residents in accordance with legislation; national standards and regulations and professional codes and guidance.

Responsibilities:

Professional / Clinical.

* Ensures that all staff are made aware of and have access to the centre's Statement of Purpose and Function, national regulations, standards, and statutory documents governing the activities of the centre.
* Ensures that staff, including volunteers are trained in and aware of the policy for the prevention and response to allegations or suspicions of abuse.
* Manages the selection and interviewing of staff, ensuring that staff are recruited and selected according to the requirements of national nursing home regulations and standards.
* Planning, organising, and undertaking performance appraisals for nursing and care staff.
* Consults with the Registered Provider and senior management team to ensure that staff, including volunteers are recruited and selected according to the requirements of national nursing home regulations and standards.
* Works with management to provide information on key performance indicators and reportable events in a timely manner.
* Implements a formal mechanism of supervision so that all nursing care staff and volunteers are appropriately supervised according to their roles.
* Ensures assessment and care planning is person centred, in accordance with standards and regulations and provides evidence of each resident's involvement and consent or where this is not feasible, ensure documentation of same and involvement of the resident's representative.
* Ensures that residents' records are maintained in line with best practices and in line with regulations and national standards.
* Arranges and facilitates staff meetings in collaboration with the Registered Provider.
* Maintenance of the resident directory.
* Ensures that the centre is in compliance with national standards for infection prevention and control.
* Assists relevant personnel in developing cleaning schedules, regular and enhanced ('deep cleaning'), for all areas in the home.
* Develops and monitors the effectiveness of cleaning schedules for the home.
* Ensures that effective systems are in place for monitoring infection prevention and control in the centre.

Risk Management.

* Implements risk management and health and safety policies and procedures at floor level.
* Ensures that all incidents are recorded and managed in accordance with standards and regulations.
* Monitors health and safety risks through involvement in formal health and safety audits and informally on a day-to-day basis.
* Ensures that nursing and care staff are aware of their responsibilities in relation to risk management.
* Ensures staff have the required training to meet their responsibilities for risk management, health and safety and fire safety.
* Maintains a live risk register for the home with appropriate controls against risks.
* Assists in reviewing the Safety Statement for the home annually.

Compliance and Quality Improvement.

* Leads on clinical governance for the centre.
* Takes lead role in establishing, monitoring, and maintaining compliance in relation to HIQA standards and national legislation.
* Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements for notifications and reporting to the inspectorate.
* Ensures that catering services are maintained in line with hygiene and HACCP standards by maintaining a quality audit cycle.
* With the clinical governance committee, implements processes for continuous learning and improvement in all aspects of quality and safety of care delivery.
* Implements the annual audit programme for the centre to ensure that audits of structures, process and outcomes are conducted as required by standards, regulations, and the annual audit programme.
* Maintains timely and accurate documentation related to health and safety; risk management and quality in accordance with national standards; regulations; local policies and professional guidance.

Financial, Commercial and Management.

* Works closely with the Leadership team, particularly the Group Financial Controller, to deliver on the company's human resource management recruitment and retention strategy.
* Prepares business cases for any proposed new costs.
* Maintains the occupancy of the Home to agreed levels.
* Manages pay and non-pay budget in line with approved levels.
* Takes active management of disciplinary matters with support from group management.
* Provides cross-cover to other nursing homes within the group as required.
* Is an active member of the management team.

Skills, competencies, and knowledge.

* Knowledge of HIQA standards and national regulations for residential care services for older people.
* Knowledge of legislation, professional codes and standards related to practice and to caring for older people.
* Effective leadership and management including a developmental approach to staff.

* IT skills.

Education and Training.

* Maintains professional competence.
* Organises and participating in induction training with new staff.
* Conducts and documenting training needs analyses and staff training programmes to ensure that all grades of staff have access to education and training specific to their roles.
* Maintains accurate records in relation to training, i.e. maintains a training matrix for the home.

Qualifications and Experience.

* Be registered in the General Division of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
* 3 years' experience of nursing older persons within the previous 6 years.
* At least 3 years management experience in a similar environment.
* Management qualification essential.
* Post-graduate certification in care of older adults or IPC desirable.
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development in the last two years.
