Orientation and Mobility Instructor – Low Vision Team
Location: On-site Drumcondra Campus, 5 days a week
Annual Leave: 30 days
Salary Scale: €42,715–59,971 (based on experience)
Summary: To empower children with visual impairment to move safely, confidently, and independently in their environments (home, school, community). The Orientation & Mobility Instructor will provide assessment, direct instruction, consultation, and support, tailoring services across the developmental spectrum from infancy through young adulthood.
Key Responsibilities
* Assessment & Planning – Conduct initial and ongoing assessments of orientation and mobility needs.
* Instruction & Intervention – Teach orientation and mobility skills appropriate to age and developmental stage, including spatial concepts, body awareness, travel cognition, cane skills, etc.; train in both familiar and unfamiliar environments.
* Collaboration & Consultation – Work closely with the Low Vision Team and wider clinical team; collaborate with families; advise schools, local authorities and community organisations on environmental modifications and safe routes.
* Progress Monitoring & Reporting – Maintain accurate records of sessions, assessment findings and progress; review and revise plans; provide monthly KPI data.
* Professional Development & Advocacy – Stay up-to-date with best practices; advocate for greater accessibility and inclusion.
* Other Duties – Travel to various locations; supervise assistants, volunteers or interns; provide trainings/workshops to parents, school staff and peers.
Essential Requirements
* 3rd level qualification in health, education or social care sectors.
* Experience working with children with disabilities.
* Fluent English – verbal and written.
Desirable
* Fully qualified Orientation and Mobility Instructor.
* Experience working with children with visual impairment.
* Additional study specific to visual impairment.
NB: Garda vetting and full reference checks will apply. A police clearance may also be required for remote residency.
