Our implants and instruments are used by interventional neuroradiologists, neurosurgeons and neurologists to treat conditions resulting from hemorrhagic and ischaemic stroke. We are seeking a Senior Research and Development Engineer, office based in Galway, Ireland, to join the Neuro Thromboembolic Initiative (NTI).Job Description: The Senior Research and Development Engineer will be part of NTI and will provide inputs to the research and development team and wider business by setting up and running research projects relating to cerebral diseases and their treatment. Clear establishment of the link between research and final medical device design is a critical part of the role. You will work to develop disease understanding, design devices for neurovascular treatment, and communicate findings to internal partners and physicians.What you will be doing:Develop a deep understanding of disease states and physician techniques; act as a subject matter authority.Conduct internal or external research to meet R&D needs for devices treating neurovascular diseases.Collaborate with R&D, Clinical, Medical Affairs, Marketing and other partners to understand unmet needs.Provide outputs for product development (literature analyses, in vitro/in vivo test models, test protocol development).Adhere to project timelines; communicate updates, risks and issues to management.Remain current on neurovascular disease research to inform portfolio prioritisation.Publish original research and present at international congresses as appropriate.Acquire knowledge of current products from a technical perspective and provide direction to team members.Support regulatory submissions and marketing materials development.Ensure compliance with Environmental, Health and Safety regulations.Write procedures, protocols, specifications, and reports; liaise with external resources as needed.Mentor less experienced engineers or technicians and support the development of new equipment and testing methodologies.Role may involve moderate travel.What you will bring:Required: A minimum of 5 years’ experience in Medical Devices, Cardiovascular or Neurovascular implants or instruments; advanced degree in Engineering or Science; strong design and technical abilities; data review and statistical methods skills (Minitab); excellent written, spoken and presentation skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.Preferred: Experience in neurovascular disease and its treatment; development of in‑vitro test methods; leadership/mentoring experience.Job location: Galway, Ireland with potential travel within EMEA and internationally.Required Skills: Core competencies in Biomedical/Mechanical Engineering, Design of Experiments (DOE), Data Analysis, Prototyping, Regulatory support, and cross-functional collaboration.Is this job a match or a miss?Note: The description above reflects the Senior R&D Engineer role in Galway; other roles may be described elsewhere in the original content.
