Unijobs are currently expanding the panel of Exam Invigilators and Scribes for Thurles Co. Tipperary. Exam invigilation is a seasonal position, occurring over three fortnightly periods per year (December/May/August). Invigilators may be required from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. throughout the exam period. The rate of pay for this role is 15.31 per hour. ***Application deadline date strictly Friday 3rd of March*** About the role: We are looking for individuals to join our team and contribute to the smooth and fair administration of our exams. As an exam invigilator, you will play a crucial role in upholding the integrity of exams. This position requires reliable, flexible individuals with a can-do attitude. Relevant experience in customer service or administration is desirable but not essential. Invigilators must follow instruction from Senior staff and have meticulous attention to detail as well as excellent punctuality. Successful applicants are added to a current panel of invigilators available for term-time assessments only. Although desirable, previous experience as an invigilator is not a prerequisite for this role. Applying for invigilation work does not guarantee that you will be successful. Invigilation slots are limited, and priority will be given to those that commit to working the full days in the relevant exam weeks. Not all applicants will be allocated work. Candidates that are deemed suitable will be required to attend an interview. Invigilation training sessions will be held ahead of the exam sessions and it is mandatory to attend. The Exams Team will circulate dates of the training to everyone who is successful in their application. Failure to attend will result in no exam sessions being assigned. Responsibilities: Carry out all duties as directed by the Exam Venue Coordinator Ensure that examination venues are appropriately prepared for the assessment, including setting up examination materials and equipment. Manage exam material in accordance with University procedures, including the distribution and collection of examination materials Assisting students prior to the start of examinations by directing them to their seats and advising them about possessions permitted in examination venues. Provide support to students throughout the examination period, including ensuring that students have the necessary materials and equipment to complete their exams. Implement University regulations and guidelines, ensuring that examinations are conducted in a fair and appropriate manner. Verify the attendance and identification of students taking the examination. Observe students vigilantly during examinations by moving through the venue to ensure that they comply with regulations and report any queries or issues to the Exam Venue Coordinator. Ensure a calm and comfortable environment is maintained in the examination hall. Supervise students departing examination venues, ensuring that equipment or stationery is not removed from the venue without authorisation and ensuring that students vacate the venue in an orderly and quiet manner. Be vigilant at all times in the examination halls and move between exam venues promptly as required. Escort students between venues as required. The role of an exam invigilator is physically demanding and requires standing/walking for extended periods of time to supervise the exam centres. Ensure at the end of the examination that the venue is left in a suitable condition for the next examination and that exam materials are replenished. Assisting with any situation which may arise in the exam hall, e.g. a student becomes ill or in the event of an exam hall evacuation. Essential Skills and Knowledge: Excellent listening skills and ability to take direction / follow instructions Ability to work independently while also working effectively as part of a team Accuracy and attention to detail. Experience with scribing where applicable. Should you wish to scribe there will be a short test completed at interview. Ability to deal with difficult or urgent situations using discretion and good judgement Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to deal with stressful situations, stressed or anxious students while maintaining a calm presence. Excellent communication skills - a high standard of spoken English is essential, as all communication with candidates in the examination halls is verbal (IELTS Level 6.5 or equivalent). IT literate with the ability to communicate via email and log onto a dedicated website to manage timesheets. Discreet and respectful of confidentiality. Excellent timekeeping and time management skills. Desirable Requirements: Availability for the entire duration of the exam schedule is desirable.
