Job Description
Healthcare Assistants are required to assist Residents who require help with all activities of daily living (Personal care, nutrition, elimination, emotional support). Assisting Residents with mobility problems and other physical disabilities, including incontinence, and personal equipment as detailed in Residents care plans. To care for Residents who need minor dressings, bed side nursing and feeding. To care for Residents during end of life. To promote emotional and physical activity through conversation, trips out, assisting with activities, reading, writing etc. Care assistants are responsible for the cleaning and tidying of: Residents beds, disposing of incontinence wear in the correct bins, sorting and labelling residents' belongings, empty and clean commodes, clean and inspect equipment and be familiar with the disposal of clinical waste bags. To set tables/trays as required and assist Residents in having a balanced and nutritional diet as well as ensuring that Residents are well hydrated throughout the day. Follow all guidelines regarding food and fluid intake as set out in the Residents care plans. To clear, clean and tidy the dining areas following all mealtimes. Document intake and output of residents that are on fluid charts. Inform the RGN of resident's bowel movements. Report any skin integrity issues to the RGN. The RGN on duty will inform you if the application of specialist shampoos e.g. Nizoral or other medicated topical creams that have been prescribed. Report back to the nurse and return the cream / shampoo to the nurse. To answer the resident call bells at their earliest convenience and react to the emergency bell immediately. To answer the door, greeting all visitors professionally and communicate in a professional and informative manner. HCAs should be up to date with changes in resident care and respond positively and promptly to any changes made that impacts their routine. To report to a nurse any significant changes in health or circumstances of a Resident. Ensure all changes are documented.
