Key Responsibilities Support the development of health promotion initiatives across a range of areas in St.
Vincent's University Hospital, to ensure health promotion is an integral and sustainable part of health services delivery and organisational development.
Provide a structure for developing health promotion service specifications, in collaboration with the Health Promotion Committee and multi-disciplinary teams as appropriate.
Identify how the hospital can incorporate health promotion in all aspects of patient care.
Ensure work is delivered in line with national standards, guidelines and practice.
Use a wide variety of innovative methods, including making use of newer technological methods, to promote a healthy lifestyle and support national campaigns (e.g.
Healthy Ireland) to increase activity levels, encourage healthy eating habits and smoking cessation in the general population.
Using evidence-based behaviour change techniques deliver the one-to-one Health Promotion Clinic to patients who require support to make lifestyle behaviour changes.
Carrying out audits and needs assessments, designing, implementing and evaluating health promotion projects and work programmes.
Supervision of staff in the Health Promotion Department in the absence of the Head of Preventive Medicine and Health Promotion.
Represent the Department of Preventive Medicine and Health Promotion on local working groups and committees as required.
Work closely with the Head of Preventive Medicine and Health Promotion and the Consultants in Preventative Medicine in the planning and development of Health Promotion services.
Developing a strategic approach to improving health, aiming to ensure that policies that can affect public health do so in a health promoting way.
Managing specific health promoting projects in order to ensure they are ethical, effective and efficiently delivered, e.g.
Smoking Advice Service, Mindfulness, Smarter Travel challenges etc.
Involvement in the hospital's communication strategy to ensure a health promotion co-ordinated approach across the hospital.
Support the participation of this hospital in the Global Network of Tobacco-free Hospitals and Healthcare Services initiative through activities such as the ongoing audit of its smoking cessation activities.
Initiating and participating in the education and training of departmental colleagues, other health professionals and client groups as required.
For example, Making Every Contact Count.
Designing, preparing, and evaluating educational resources used for client and professional education.
Involvement in hospital health promotion awareness activities.
Liaising internally with other departments and specialties, and externally with other bodies such as other Health Services Executive departments and voluntary agencies.
Facilitating meetings as required.
Participating in continuous professional development so that practice can be based on best evidence in the area of health promotion.
