Dyspraxia/DCD Irelandis a registered charity and a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee (CLG), with its head office based in Dublin. The organisation is dedicated to increasing awareness of Dyspraxia/DCD and supporting individuals and families affected by the condition. We do this through our clinical programmes, education and training initiatives, and our national information and support service.Dyspraxia/DCD Ireland has a strong ethos of partnership development. We collaborate closely with universities and schools across Ireland, Europe and the UK to promote research and best practice. We are proud of our vibrant membership base and the dedication of our volunteers, who play a vital role in advancing the goals and vision of the organisationDyspraxia/DCD Irelandoperates in an inclusive and transparent manner, with a strong commitment to good governance. This includes full compliance with the Charities Governance Code and all relevant legislation.We are currently implementing ourStrategic Plan 2025–2027 and are proud to be a partner organisation with the HSE, as outlined in theHSE National Service Plans for 2024 and 2025in the provision of paediatric occupational therapy services.As we expand our service offerings, we are now seeking to appoint avoluntary Non-Executive Board Director with Community Health Sector experience. This individual will contribute to the strategic direction, governance, and clinical oversight of Dyspraxia/DCD Ireland, ensuring the organisation operates within its legal and regulatory framework while advancing its mission to support individuals with Dyspraxia/DCD.Role PurposeTo provide strategic guidance and sector-specific insight to support Dyspraxia DCD Ireland's mission of improving awareness, understanding, and support for individuals with Dyspraxia/DCD. This role is ideal for someone with clinical or management experience in the community health sector who is passionate about neurodiversity and inclusive practice.The Board Member will work closely with theBoard Chairperson,CEO, fellowBoard Directors, and members of relevantsub-committees, particularly those focused on service development, risk, and compliance. They may also engage with external stakeholders, including HSE representatives and academic partners, to support strategic initiatives.The ideal candidate will have a strong appreciation of the role and responsibilities of a charity trustee/director, and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of corporate governance. While prior experience in the not-for-profit sector is beneficial, it is not essential.General Trustee duties of a Charity TrusteeComply with the Charity's governing documentEnsuring charity is complying with its charitable purpose for the public benefitActing in the best interest of the charityAct with Reasonable Care and SkillManage the assets of the charityKey ResponsibilitiesContribute to the strategic direction and governance of the organisation.Offer expertise and insight into health service delivery and clinical pathways relevant to Dyspraxia/DCD Ireland.Support the development of partnerships and advocacy efforts within the health and social care sectors.Ensure the organisation's activities align with best practices in health and community support.Participate in board meetings and relevant subcommittees.Act as an ambassador for Dyspraxia DCD Ireland, promoting its values and objectives.Person SpecificationProfessional experience in the community health sector, either in a clinical or management role.Understanding of neurodiversity, disability services, or allied health professions is desirable.Commitment to the mission and values of Dyspraxia DCD Ireland.Strong communication, collaboration, and strategic thinking skills.Previous board or governance experience is welcome but not essential.Board MeetingsTypically, there are six (6) board meetings and approximately three to four (3 to 4) of each sub-committee meetings per year. Board meetings are currently held via teleconference with the option to meet in person in Dublin 1-2 times per year. Sub-committee meetings may be arranged via video call or in person as appropriate.Board Directors are not remunerated, but reasonable travel and subsistence allowances are paid.
