Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time (1.0 FTE), specific purpose (up to 24 months) as a Post-Doctoral Researcher with The School of Psychology at the University of Galway, Ireland. This position is funded by Horizon 2020 and is available from 1st June 2025 to contract end date of 30th May 2027. The project supervisors are Prof. Brian McGuire and Dr. John Bogue.
PUREMIND: Personal natUral environment-gene-gut-bRain interactions based Ecosystem for prevention of Mental Illness in childreN and aDolescents. PUREMIND is a Horizon 2020 EU-funded project that will deliver the first Integrated Mental Healthcare Ecosystem (IMHE) to predict/early identify Mental Health Disorders (MHD) and create more optimal personalised interventions to prevent MHD and thereby improve well-being in children, adolescents, and young adults (0-25 years).
The output will be a clinical tool, an accessible/adaptable mobile app called MyMind to measure at scale and allow a subject to seamlessly access a support system of family, community, clinical and emergency services, to support prediction/early detection of MHD. The app will empower users to monitor their own mental health at home/educational/community settings and take preventive actions against MHD. The University of Galway element of the project will encompass a broad social sciences work package including a systematic review, qualitative and quantitative research, as well as investigation and development of behaviour change strategies to be integrated within the app to promote healthy use of the app.
Salary: The post is suitable for an experienced researcher who can manage the day-to-day delivery of the project along with the project supervisors. Research Assistant salary scale €32,962 - €41,880. Applicants should have at least 6 years’ experience.
The default position for all new public sector appointments is the 1st point of the salary scale. This may be reviewed, and consideration afforded to appointment at a higher point on the pay scale (subject to the project’s funding limitations), where evidence of prior years’ equivalent experience is accepted in determining placement on the scale above point 1, subject to the maximum of the scale.
