Biomedical/Clinical Engineer Permanent Contract. Full Time Hours. Responsibilities Include: Operational: Apply their ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, electronic, IT problems/issues associated with medical devices using their knowledge, qualifications, training and/or experience in order to ensure maximum uptime of medical device equipment. Service/repair of electro-medical equipment in both the workshop and on-site (including front line) as directed by the head of the department. Provide routine service, calibration, performance testing, and electrical safety testing of electro-medical equipment as part of the department's service. Provide acceptance testing of new equipment procured by Mercy University Hospital (MUH). Co-operate and assist in equipment fault investigations. Perform QA assessments including report preparation on a range of medical equipment including radiology imaging systems, diagnostic workstations and other electromedical equipment in clinical use across all departments in MUH. Provide a comprehensive engineering service on all medical equipment. Ensure that all safety requirements, statutory and recommended are satisfied ensuring the safest environment for patients, staff, and others associated with the operation, control and application of electro-medical equipment. Ensure all electromedical equipment service and repairs are carried out in a fashion that complies with both manufacturer's recommendation and accepted best practice. Carry out all work and duties in a manner that reflects optimum safety/assurance for patient and staff alike. Prepare and maintain all necessary documentation and records relating to duties performed. Participate in the implementation and on-going use of the Medical Equipment Maintenance Management and Asset Register System (ECRI-AIMS) ensuring all equipment is maintained to relevant standards and appropriate records are available at all times. Provide advice relating to equipment procurement, service and disposal. Assist in advising and training hospital staff in the use and service of equipment as directed by the Head of the Department. Participate if required in the structured clinical engineering technician training programme, complete all scheduled written assignments and attend scheduled programme vivas where progress will be assessed. Attend any training courses necessary to maintain or develop staff expertise. Develop or participate in activities in the Department of Biomedical/Clinical Engineering. Contribute to the management of the spare parts inventory and workshop operational policy. Be available for consultation with medical, paramedical, technical and administrative staff on appropriate matters. Contribute where required to the planning and equipping of new installations. From time to time, work outside normal hours, so that equipment can be returned to clinical use as soon as possible. Liaising with all departments for work. Documentation involving lifecycle of medical device. Actively involve in accreditations, regulations and maintain SOPs, standards etc. Partake in national professional societies e.g. BEAI, Engineers Ireland. Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Head of the Department. Quality & Patient Safety: Have a working knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) Standards as they apply to the role for example; Standards for Healthcare, Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections, Hygiene Standards etc. and comply with associated HSE protocols for implementing and maintaining these standards as appropriate to the role. Support, promote and actively participate in sustainable energy, water and waste initiatives to create a more sustainable, low carbon and efficient health service. Ensure compliance with Health and Safety requirements and regulations including maintaining the workshop areas, tools and test equipment. Perform as required routine QA checking and participate in risk management occurrence form management reviews (RMOF). Partake in hazard alert investigation, management and reporting. Participate in quality improvement initiatives as required. Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development and participate as required in education and training and MUH/HSE mandatory training. Be professionally responsible for all aspects of the post. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Identification and development of KPIs which are congruent with the hospitals service plan targets. Development of Action Plans to address KPI targets. Driving and promoting a Performance Management culture. In conjunction with line manager assist in the development of a Performance Management system for your profession. Management and delivery of KPIs as a routine and core business objective. Responsible for ensuring familiarity with the requirements stated within the Risk Management Strategy and compliance with the Regions Risk Management Incident/Near miss reporting Policies and Procedures. Responsible for ensuring compliance with hygiene services requirements in area of responsibility.Hygiene Services incorporates environment and facilities, hand hygiene, catering, cleaning, the management of laundry, waste, sharps and equipment. Foster and support a quality improvement culture through-out area of responsibility in relation to hygiene services. Responsible for Quality & Risk Management, Hygiene Services and Health & Safety (will be clarified in the induction process and by line manager). Take reasonable care for own actions and the effect that these may have upon the safety of others. Cooperate with management, attend Health & Safety related training and not undertake any task for which they have not been authorised and adequately trained. Required to bring to the attention of a responsible person any perceived shortcoming in our safety arrangements or any defects in work equipment. Be aware of and comply with the MUH Health Care Records Management/Integrated Discharge Planning (HCRM / IDP) Code of Practice. Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc - Candidates must: Hold as a minimum a recognised qualification at National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ), Level 7 or higher, in one of the following engineering disciplines: Electronic, Electrical, Instrument Physics, Industrial Instrumentation, Applied Physics, Mechanical, Mechtronic, Biomedical Engineering; OR hold a recognised qualification at least equivalent to one of the aforementioned. Possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and administrative capacity) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
