We are delighted to be recruting a Systems Accountant on behalf of our client Sport Ireland on a fixed term 2 year contract Role Overview The Systems Accountant will lead the technical aspect of finance technology transition, charged with turning Sport Ireland's digital-finance strategy into day-to-day reality. Operating at the within Finance, ICT, Grants and Campus Development, the post-holder will translate public-sector control requirements into a robust finance systems design, devise the data structures that will feed a new enterprise data-warehouse and build live dashboards that place real-time information at managers' fingertips. The role therefore demands equal parts accountancy expertise, business-analysis skill and change-management acumen. It will suit a professionally qualified accountant who enjoys drilling into data models, who understands both finance and tech, and who knows how to move a diverse stakeholder group from legacy spreadsheets to a single system. Successful delivery will leave Sport Ireland with a modern, automated control environment and a finance team confident in its ability to scale. Job Purpose The immediate objective is to lead Sport Ireland through the digital transition, ensuring that every ledger, sub-ledger and control account migrates intact and that Public Financial Procedures are embedded in workflow design from day one. By doing so the Systems Accountant will materially reduce the risk of payment error, grant mis-classification and audit qualification, while simultaneously accelerating the month-end close. The longer-term purpose is to cultivate a data-driven culture within Finance and across the wider organisation. This involves designing self-service Power BI dashboards, teaching non-finance colleagues to interrogate their own cost centres, and continuously refining system controls as business needs evolve. Ultimately, the role underpins Sport Ireland's Programme-for-Government commitment to value-for-money, transparency and digital public-service delivery. Key Duties and Responsibilities Lead the end-to-end digital transition work-stream- requirements capture, solution design, data migration, UAT, go-live and post-implementation review. Configure chart-of-accounts, approval hierarchies and role-based security to meet Public Financial Procedures. Build Power BI dashboards for management accounts, grant monitoring and capital-project performance; train budget owners in self-service analytics. Document SOPs, segregation-of-duties matrices and control narratives; own the finance-system change-control process. Provide first-line application support, resolve incidents with ICT/vendors and coordinate system upgrades. Mentor finance staff in digital best practice and promote continuous professional development in data analytics. Person Specification: Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience: Professional accountancy qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA/CPA). 3+ years' post-qualification ERP design/admin. Advanced Excel, SQL and Power BI skills, with excellent analytical skills including financial data analysis and identify trends and issues. Knowledge of public-sector finance controls. Proven expertise in financial system administration and configuration Strong understanding of financial reporting, accounting standards and audit requirements. Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, able to translate financial requirements into system solutions. Experience in testing, execution and UAT Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing financial processes, controls, and reporting tools to ensure compliance and efficiency. Project management experience delivering multiple system enhancements and process improvements. Desirable Skills, Qualifications and Experience: Net Suite / Sage 50 implementation experience. Prince2 or Lean-Six-Sigma qualification. Expense Management Systems Experience integrating finance systems with data warehouses Experience automating grant workflows. Additional Information: Contract: 2 Year Fixed Term. Salary Scale: Higher Executive Officer Standard Scale. The appointment will be made on this scale at a point in line with the current Government Pay Policy. New entrants to the public sector commence on the first point of scale.
