A Day in the Life
You will join the Cardiac Ablation Solutions (CAS) team as a Senior R&D Engineering Manager. The CAS R&D team works on innovative products to advance Medtronic’s ablation portfolio with Pulse Field Ablation (PFA). You will be a functional business leader responsible for the R&D engineering team, executing critical development projects, and accountable for engineering staff in Galway. Your role is hybrid with a 4‑day on‑site requirement per week.
* Plan, direct, and implement all aspects of design and development of new medical device products.
* Develop, evaluate, implement and maintain technical quality assurance and reliability systems for materials, techniques, or company products.
* Oversee the investigation and evaluation of existing technologies.
* Guide conceptualization of new methodologies, materials, machines, processes, or products.
* Direct the development of new concepts from initial design to market release.
* Manage feasibility studies to confirm design functionality.
* Maintain documentation throughout all R&D phases.
* Coordinate activities with outside suppliers and consultants to ensure timely delivery.
* Select, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure efficient operation.
* Mentor team members to ensure engagement and project success.
* Champion product‑development best practices such as Voice‑of‑Customer input, early risk burn‑down, and Design for Reliability and Manufacturability (DRM).
* 25% or less domestic/international travel.
Key Skills & Experience
* Level 8 Degree in Engineering or related discipline, with at least 7 years of relevant experience and 5+ years of managerial experience (or advanced degree with same requirements).
* Experience managing engineers, including 1‑on‑1s, performance reviews, recruiting, disciplinary actions, and career development.
* Excellent communication, people‑management, and team‑building skills.
* Dynamic, proactive, and effective cross‑functional team contributor.
* Strong program‑management skills preferred.
* Proven success record in the medical device market.
