Overview
Automation Engineer – Medical Device Sector. Location: On-site, Ireland. Work Authorisation: Must hold Stamp 4 or have full, unrestricted working rights in Ireland.
Our client is a global leader in the medical device industry, known for innovation, quality, and delivering life-changing technology. They are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to join their team, supporting both manufacturing and R&D projects on-site. This is a hands-on role with involvement in design, development, implementation, and optimisation of automation systems to improve efficiency, productivity, and compliance within a regulated environment.
Responsibilities
* Automation System Design & Development
o Design and develop automation systems and processes for manufacturing and R&D.
o Identify opportunities to streamline operations, reduce waste, and increase throughput.
o Integrate automation solutions with existing equipment and systems.
* Project Collaboration & Planning
o Work closely with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to define requirements.
o Create detailed project plans, including scope, timelines, budgets, and resources.
o Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for proposed solutions.
* Installation, Testing & Commissioning
o Oversee the installation of automation equipment.
o Manage testing and commissioning to ensure operational readiness.
o Coordinate with suppliers, contractors, and internal teams for seamless delivery.
* Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement
o Diagnose and resolve technical issues with automation hardware and software.
o Implement preventative maintenance and reliability improvements.
o Analyse system performance and recommend enhancements.
* Compliance & Documentation
o Ensure all automation systems comply with medical device regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
o Develop and maintain technical documentation, including:
+ User manuals
+ Maintenance procedures
+ Project reports
o Support internal and external audits as required.
* Training & Support
o Train end-users and maintenance teams on system operation.
o Provide ongoing technical support to ensure smooth production and R&D workflows.
Qualifications & Experience
* Education: NFQ Level 7 qualification (180 credits) in Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical, or related discipline.
* Industry Experience: Proven track record in automation engineering, ideally in the medical device sector or other regulated manufacturing environments (e.g., pharma, biotech).
* Technical Skills:
o PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar)
o HMI development
o SCADA systems integration
o CAD software proficiency (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent)
o Familiarity with industrial networking and control systems
* Soft Skills:
o Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
o Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement
o Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team
* Desirable:
o Project Management Certification (PMP or equivalent)
o Experience with validation and documentation in regulated industries
