***Please note that this is an on-site role. ***We are looking for an experienced SQL Database Engineer to lead the design, staging, and delivery of a new Microsoft SQL Server environment. This role involves establishing clear standards, best practices, and reliable processes for database architecture, while overseeing migration from existing systems to the new platform.A major part of this role is ensuring that any applications relying on current databases continue to operate correctly or are updated as part of the transition. The role also includes supporting application changes related to database modifications, so experience with programming particularly C# is highly beneficial.The successful candidate will collaborate closely with application, infrastructure, and network teams to ensure the database environment aligns with broader IT initiatives, including network segmentation, while maintaining stability, security, and high performance in a continuous-operation, 24/7 manufacturing setting.Key ResponsibilitiesPlan, build, and deploy a new Microsoft SQL Server environment following best practices and established standardsDefine and implement database architecture standards, naming conventions, and operational proceduresPlan and execute structured database migrations from legacy environmentsValidate and support application functionality during and after database transitionsCollaborate with development teams to implement application changes required by database updatesAnalyse application data access patterns and dependencies to inform migration planningAlign database architecture with network segmentation and infrastructure initiativesImplement proactive monitoring, alerting, and performance diagnosticsTroubleshoot and resolve performance, availability, and stability issuesManage database security, including user access, roles, permissions, and governance controlsProvide operational support within a 24/7 production environmentSkills & ExperienceStrong hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server (installation, configuration, architecture design, and migration)Proven track record of defining and implementing database standards and best practicesExperience migrating databases while maintaining business-critical application continuityIn-depth knowledge of SQL Server performance tuning, monitoring, and troubleshootingSolid understanding of database security, access management, and governanceAbility to operate effectively in a high-availability, operationally critical environmentDesirable SkillsProgramming experience, ideally C#, to support application-level changesUnderstanding of application architecture and data access layersExperience modifying or supporting applications sExposure to manufacturing environments
