Senior Network Engineer
Location: Kilkenny or Citywest Dublin (Hybrid working model)
Tirlán, a world-class food and nutrition co‑operative, is embarking on an IT transformation programme to build its own IT capability. The Network Engineer will report to the IT Transformation Manager and be responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring, and managing the local and wide area networks across 80 locations, ensuring maximum uptime for users.
Overview
Design, implement, monitor, and manage the local and wide area networks. Oversight of managed service provider relationships and operational aspects of the network.
Key Responsibilities
* Work closely with network and security managed service providers to:
o Plan and execute the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of network equipment (switches, routers, firewalls).
o Implement security policies and controls as defined by Tirlán’s security team.
o Maintain effective network services by evaluating and resolving network performance issues (availability, utilisation, throughput, latency).
o Maintain the network considering redundancy, diversity, failover technologies, upgrades, and expandability.
o Optimise the network through monitoring performance and collaborating with network architects on design.
o Review SLAs and overall performance of the network managed service providers.
* Serve as technical specialist for network problems and emergencies.
* Maintain up-to-date documentation of network configurations and setups.
* Ensure the network complies with security standards and industry regulations, and implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans as needed.
* Work collaboratively with other IT teams and business stakeholders to support new initiatives and projects.
* Contribute to the strategy development for Tirlán’s Central IT Infrastructure.
Key Requirements
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
* 5+ years of experience in IT Network Support.
* Expert knowledge of network technologies across WAN, LAN, Wireless, Voice, and Network Security.
* Experience in configuration, implementation, and support of enterprise or manufacturing networks with diverse solutions from multiple vendors.
* Experience with WAN and LAN design, IP networking, firewalls, switching, routing, wireless, and remote access technologies.
* Preferable to have industry recognised certifications (e.g., CCNP).
* Ability to manage relationships with internal business customers.
* Proven experience working with managed service providers in managing Enterprise Networks.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Proven analytical and problem‑solving skills.
* Strong team player with a growth mindset.
