Diabetes Specialist Dietitian Development Post (Annex 21)
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and compassionate Dietitian to deliver high‑quality, person‑centred care to adults living with diabetes. This development post is suitable for experienced Band 5 Dietitians looking to progress via the BDA competency‑based pathway, or existing Band 6 Dietitians wishing to further consolidate their specialist skills.
The Role
Within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, the Adult Acute Dietetic Service promotes strong collaborative working across our teams and specialties. You will be part of a larger dietetic workforce and have access to excellent peer support, learning opportunities and ongoing professional development.
Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and manage your own caseload effectively.
Have postgraduate clinical experience working across varied dietetic settings within a multidisciplinary team and delivering group education sessions.
Diabetes experience is desirable but not essential.
Minimum education: BSc Dietetics. Registration: Health and Care Professionals Council; membership: British Dietetic Association; PVG membership scheme / Disclosure Scotland.
Band 6 candidates must successfully complete the appropriate qualification(s) or training outlined within the competency framework prior to progressing to band 6.
Duration, Location and Working Pattern
Location: Stobhill Hospital, 133 Balornock Rd, Glasgow G21 3UW.
Permanent contract.
Part‑time post of 21.6 hours per week.
Shift pattern: Monday to Friday, 8 am‑4 pm.
The salary is pro rata for part‑time hours.
Key Responsibilities
Provide specialist dietetic assessment, treatment and personalised advice for adults with diabetes.
Deliver individual consultations and group education sessions.
Contribute to the delivery and development of structured diabetes education programmes.
Provide dietetic support to the maternity diabetes service at PRMU.
Participate in service improvement, pathway development and quality initiatives.
Support the training and supervision of dietetic students on practice placements.
Effectively manage a defined caseload within a multidisciplinary team.
Knowledge, Training and Qualifications Required
BSc Human Nutrition & Dietetics, Registered Dietitian (Health and Care Professions Council), Advanced Diploma in Dietetic Practice or equivalent master’s level postgraduate education.
Membership of the British Dietetic Association; record of CPD relevant to job title at master’s level or equivalent. Accredited educator for Type 1 structured group education is desirable.
Post‑qualification experience in a specialist area of practice in a multi‑disciplinary setting.
Audit experience and evidence of impact on practice.
Acted in a clinical supervisory capacity.
Development and delivery of group education at post‑graduate level.
