EHS Engineer
Takeda Ireland's Grange Castle campus is expanding with a new standalone, high-containment manufacturing and packaging facility for oncology products, and a second facility focused on cell therapy – the first of its kind in Ireland for a multinational pharmaceutical company.
Job Purpose
The EHS Engineer will support the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs across the site.
The role will provide hands-on EHS support to manufacturing operations, including high-potent API manufacturing and packaging, ensuring compliance with regulatory, corporate, and site requirements while strengthening the site safety culture.
How You Will Contribute
EHS Compliance and Management Systems
Identify and evaluate applicable legal, regulatory, and corporate EHS requirements and implement effective compliance strategies
Maintain and continuously improve the site EHS Management System in line with ISO ***** and Takeda governance expectations
Prepare, review, and submit regulatory reports as required
Liaise with regulatory authorities during inspections, audits, and licensing activities
Ensure timely updates of local procedures, SOPs, and systems
EHS Leadership and Culture
Act as an EHS subject matter expert (SME) for site stakeholders
Drive continuous improvement initiatives and support the development of an interdependent safety culture
Engage cross-functional stakeholders to review EHS performance and address improvement opportunities
Risk Management and Emergency Preparedness
Lead and participate in risk assessments including HAZOP, HAZID, PJHA, and PSSR
Demonstrate expertise in potent API risks, containment strategies, and occupational hygiene monitoring
Support development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the site Emergency Response Program
Ensure accurate documentation and reporting of risk assessments and EHS records
Training, Competence, and Awareness
Develop and deliver EHS training and awareness programs for operations, maintenance, and support functions
Act as a trainer and mentor, supporting capability development across the site
Performance Monitoring and Continuous Improvement
Conduct site inspections and compliance evaluations, ensuring findings are addressed and tracked
Support EHS governance forums by providing data, trends, and performance insights
Lead or support program reviews (e.g., contractor safety, risk assessment programs)
Investigate incidents and near misses, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
General
Provide guidance and coaching on EHS requirements to employees and contractors
Support procurement of PPE and EHS-related services in line with Takeda standards
Carry out additional duties as required by the Head of EHS or Site Leadership Team
What You Bring to Takeda
Bachelor's degree (minimum) in Health & Safety, Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical), Chemical Science, or related STEM discipline
Professional certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or ISO *****
Minimum of 5 years' experience in an EHS role within a manufacturing environment, preferably pharmaceutical or chemical (GMP regulated)
Strong technical knowledge with a practical, hands-on approach
Proven problem-solving and risk management capability
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Collaborative, proactive, and flexible, with the ability to work independently and lead cross-functional initiatives
Strong passion for EHS excellence and continuous improvement
