MRF Supervisor
Location: Clondalkin, Dublin 22
Reporting to: MRF / Operations Manager
Shift Pattern: Night shift, 19:00 to 06:30, Monday to Friday
Role Overview
The MRF Supervisor leads the night shift operation of a high-performance production environment within the Materials Recovery Facility. The role ensures safe, compliant and efficient plant performance while maintaining strong control over throughput, material quality and team productivity.
This is a hands-on leadership position with responsibility for overseeing staff, monitoring machine performance, managing material flow and maintaining consistent output quality across the shift.
The successful candidate combines strong operational awareness with a structured, data-driven approach to supervision and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
Supervise all night shift activities across the MRF
Coordinate staffing, line allocation and workflow to maintain production targets
Monitor tonnes processed per hour, downtime, reject levels and recovery efficiency
Identify operational issues early and implement corrective actions
Plant Performance
Oversee performance of sorting lines, conveyors, magnets, optical sorters and balers
Work closely with maintenance to prevent breakdowns and minimise downtime
Escalate equipment or process issues promptly
Maintain stable plant performance during high-pressure periods
Safety & Compliance
Enforce Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 requirements
Ensure adherence to Risk Assessments, Safe Operating Procedures and PPE standards
Apply lockout tagout procedures and site safety controls at all times
Maintain compliance with environmental licence conditions
Act immediately on hazards and implement corrective measures
Quality Control
Ensure outgoing material meets customer specifications and contract requirements
Monitor contamination levels and implement reduction measures
Understand commercial impact of purity rates and recovery performance
Adjust plant operation to maximise value and efficiency
People Management
Lead and support the night shift team
Allocate resources effectively and maintain clear direction on the floor
Address performance issues promptly and fairly
Maintain strong communication with operations, logistics, maintenance and compliance teams
Planning & Continuous Improvement
Plan shift activities in advance including staffing, maintenance coordination and material flow
Reduce reactive firefighting through structured preparation
Drive daily improvements in productivity, quality and safety
Maintain accurate operational reporting and shift handovers
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a practical, disciplined supervisor who understands production environments and leads from the floor.
Essential
Experience in waste, recycling, resource recovery or industrial processing environments
Proven team leadership or supervisory experience
Strong understanding of production KPIs and plant performance monitoring
Knowledge of health and safety requirements in industrial settings
Ability to make decisions quickly and remain composed under pressure
Desirable
Experience working within an MRF environment
Exposure to environmental compliance requirements
Mechanical awareness of processing equipment
Experience working night shift operations
