Clerkin Connect are recruiting a Quantity Surveyor, on behalf of our client, a leading electrical contracting business in the North East. With a strong reputation for delivering high-quality electrical installations across commercial, industrial, and residential projects, our client continues to invest in their people, their processes, and their growth.
As part of their expansion journey, they now have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor (Electrical) to join their commercial team. Key Responsibilities
Cost Management & Reporting
* Prepare, manage, and monitor detailed project budgets, forecasts, and cost plans.
* Carry out regular cost reporting to ensure projects are delivered within budget.
* Provide commercial advice to project managers and senior management on financial performance and risk.
Measurement & Valuation
* Measure and value electrical works accurately from drawings, BIM models, and site inspections.
* Prepare interim applications for payment and ensure timely certification of payments.
* Prepare and agree final accounts, variations, and claims.
Tendering & Procurement
* Support the preparation of tenders, including detailed take-offs, pricing, and bid submissions.
* Assist in the procurement of subcontractors, suppliers, and specialist packages.
* Negotiate and agree terms and conditions with subcontractors and suppliers.
Contract Administration & Compliance
* Ensure all works are carried out in line with contract requirements, company standards, and statutory regulations.
* Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial risks throughout the project lifecycle.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date records to support claims, valuations, and audits.
Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
* Work closely with project managers, site foremen, and engineers to ensure accurate reporting and control of project costs.
* Build strong working relationships with clients, consultants, and subcontractors to support successful project delivery.
* Attend project and client meetings, providing commercial updates and input as required.
Continuous Improvement
* Contribute to the development and refinement of internal commercial processes.
* Identify opportunities for cost efficiencies and improved project performance.
* Stay updated on industry standards, best practices, and legislation relevant to electrical contracting and quantity surveying.
Skills & Experience Required
* Minimum
3 years' experience
as a Quantity Surveyor, ideally within the electrical contracting or wider construction sector.
* Relevant degree or third-level qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a related field.
* Strong knowledge of construction contracts and procurement practices.
* Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving abilities.
* Proficient in MS Office and measurement/estimating software (e.g., Cubit, Buildsoft, or similar).
* Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
* Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
