Role Purpose
The Financial Controller is a key member of the leadership team, responsible for managing the company's financial processes, reporting, and finance strategy. This role demands a detail-oriented professional with a strong financial background The Financial Controller is responsible for financial planning and analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and internal control. Will be responsible for financial reporting to management and the shareholders, preparation of annual financial counts as well as compliance with government regulations. Builds strong commercial relationships with Management team and other partners, helps assesses new opportunities and investment potential. Contributes to development of appropriate commercial and product plans to drive future growth.
Key Responsibilities
· Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
· Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
· Manage cash flow, working capital, and risk management. Liaise with bank as appropriate.
· Conduct financial forecasting on future revenue and profitability.
· Working with colleagues, prepares the annual sales budget and P&L. Evaluates the requirement for price increases to retain profitability. Works closely with Commercial and Marketing colleagues, formulate from bottom-up and present to the Managing Director for approval.
· On approval of the plan, submit required detail to feed into the company's monthly budget targets.
· Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and controls to ensure regulatory and statutory compliance. Keeping the general ledger, payroll, and taxes in order.
· Support the leadership team with monthly management accounts, financial analysis, gross margin and customer profitability analysis, and insights to drive business performance.
· Monitor and improve cost efficiency across all operations, with guidance from Managing Director and Commercial Manager.
· Longer Term Business Plans: As a Management Team member, participate and contribute to the discussion and preparation of any longer-term business plans (e.g. 5-year plans) on the future development of Killowen business, ensuring the required financial input to such business plans.
· Assists in the Product Development process, providing financial and investment guidance, product costings and contributes to stage-gate process.
· Working with colleagues across the business, the financial controller will contribute to the tracking and delivery of the Killowen Farm's ESG targets.
· Responsible for development of ERP technology across the business, working with a third-party provider.
· Manage and develop a finance team, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
· Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, Enterprise Ireland and financial institutions.
· Stay informed about changes in financial regulations and standards in Ireland.
· Build relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and key customers to drive performance and ongoing company commercial projects.
Other Fora/Meetings: In addition to weekly Management Meetings, contribute to Marketing meetings, NPD meetings, Quality Meetings, Operation meetings, Finance meetings and other company fora as required.
Skills & Experience
- Qualified Accountant with 4 years PQE.
- Experience in a financial management role, preferably within the food production or FMCG sectors.
- Strong knowledge of Irish tax laws, accounting principles, and compliance requirements.
- Proven track record of developing financial strategies and achieving business goals.
- Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite. SAP experience is preferable but not essential.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Fact-based approach to business building
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to handle conflict - particularly when addressing difficult issues and addressing areas of poor performance.
- Balanced in judgement with the capacity to act decisively and confidently and make the right decisions.
- Prepared to work whatever hours are necessary to get the job done and to achieve objectives.
- The candidate will have a knowledge and understanding of sustainability, including ESG target setting and measurement, regulatory compliance and environmental accounting. Further training is available in this area.
