Job Purpose: The Transport Planner plays a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient transportation of fresh produce to and from our distribution centre. The role involves planning, coordinating, and monitoring all transportation activities to guarantee timely and cost-effective deliveries.
Success in this role requires close collaboration with internal teams—Sales/Commercial, Managing Director, Operations (Packhouse and Goods In/Bananas), and Quality—as well as external partners such as hauliers and suppliers. A solid understanding of import procedures, particularly from Italy and Holland.
Key Responsibilities
· Coordinate with hauliers to ensure trucks are delivered on time and in full
· Develop and manage load plans, organising pallet dispatch in line with customer requirements and delivery timelines
· Identify opportunities to streamline processes and implement improvements to enhance dispatch and transport efficiency
· Plan and manage international produce transportation, primarily by road, ensuring compliance with all relevant import regulations and procedures
· Work closely with the Sales/Commercial team to align transport planning with client delivery requirements
· Liaise with Packhouse and Goods In/Bananas teams to guarantee smooth loading/unloading and that intake processes meet daily agreements
· Optimise routes and schedules to minimise delays and maximise efficiency, particularly at container arrivals.
· Proactively address transport-related issues or disruptions, providing timely and effective solutions.
Qualifications and Skills:
· Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field (preferred)
· Minimum 3 years' experience in transport planning, logistics, or supply chain operations
· Strong knowledge of logistics and transportation principles, including route optimisation and load planning
· Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building effective relationships with internal teams and external partners
· Proficient in using Microsoft Office
· Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving abilities and a solutions-driven mindset
· Language skills: Proficiency in English required; Italian language skills beneficial
Working Conditions
* For the right person and after completion of the training, there is the possibility to work in a hybrid model (4 days in the office, 1 day from home, or 3 days in the office, 2 days from home) if business needs allow and if agreed with the Transport Manager in advance.
* Flexible start and finish times are available.
* Saturday on-call duty required on a rotational basis with other members of the Transport Team.
