Commissioning Lead (Electrical) – Data Centres (Critical Power)
Senior Electrical Commissioning Engineer
Lead the commissioning strategy and execution governance of critical electrical infrastructure for advanced, liquid‑cooled data centres. Define how power systems are safely energised, tested, integrated, and demonstrated, working closely with mechanical systems that support high‑density IT loads.
Operate within a central commissioning team, providing strategy, standards, and technical assurance across regional deployments.
Responsibilities
Develop and own the electrical commissioning strategy for the data centre product.
Define energisation sequences, safety and control philosophies, failure‑mode and recovery testing scenarios.
Act as escalation point for all electrical commissioning risks and issues.

MV / LV power distribution
UPS systems (static and/or rotary)
Standby generation and fuel systems
ATS / STS / switchgear
Busways and rack power distribution

Procedure & Test Development
Author and approve:
Electrical commissioning scripts
Black‑building and power restoration tests
Load bank and live IT load testing procedures
Define acceptance criteria aligned to uptime, redundancy, and safety requirements.
Site & Regional Oversight
Govern commissioning execution by regional electrical teams.
Review method statements, switching plans, and test documentation.
Witness critical energisation, power‑failure testing, and integrated tests.
Ensure consistent commissioning quality across regions and projects.
Integrated Systems Testing (IST)
Lead electrical contribution to IST events.
Coordinate with mechanical commissioning on:
Power failure impacts to CDUs and cooling systems
Control system fail‑safe behaviours
Support client‑witnessed testing and operational demonstrations.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure safe systems of work for HV/LV activities.
Enforce lock‑out/tag‑out, switching authority, and permit procedures.
Promote a strong safety culture within commissioning environments.
Qualifications & Experience
10+ years’ experience commissioning critical power systems for data centres.
Strong understanding of electrical failure modes and redundancy testing, load progression, SCADA/EPMS monitoring.
HV authorisation or equivalent experience highly desirable.

Senior Mechanical Commissioning Engineer
Own and lead commissioning strategy for liquid‑cooled mechanical systems within next‑generation data centre deployments. Responsible for developing commissioning methodology, authoring procedures, and ensuring consistent, high‑quality execution across regional site teams.
Responsibilities
Develop and own the mechanical commissioning strategy for liquid‑cooled data centre products.
Define commissioning philosophy, test levels (L1–L5), hold points, and acceptance criteria.
Provide design‑for‑commissioning input during early design and product development phases.
Act as final technical authority for mechanical commissioning issues and risk resolution.
Systems Scope
Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs)
Facility and secondary heat rejection systems (dry coolers, chillers, plate heat exchangers)
Pumps, valves, pipework, filtration, water treatment
Leak detection and containment systems
Integration with IT thermal loads and controls
Procedure & Documentation Development
Author and maintain:
Mechanical commissioning plans
Pre‑commissioning and flushing procedures

Site & Regional Team Oversight
Provide governance and technical oversight to regional mechanical commissioning teams.

Integrated Testing & Handover
Collaborate with electrical and controls leads during:

Qualifications & Experience
10+ years’ experience in mechanical commissioning of mission‑critical facilities.
Demonstrable experience commissioning liquid‑cooled data centre systems.
Strong working knowledge of hydronic system design, controls (BMS/PLC), redundancy and failure‑mode analysis.
Experience working across multiple geographies with regional teams.
Relevant engineering qualification (Mechanical Engineering or equivalent).

Develop detailed power distribution schematics using CAD tools, aligned with customer requirements and industry codes.
Produce controls schematics and electrical/control panel layouts for custom air‑handling equipment.
Apply engineering theory and relevant codes to correctly size electrical components.
Carry out calculations including MCA, overcurrent protection, and amperage.
Select, assess, and specify electrical and control components, creating clear and accurate bills of materials.
Prepare detailed project submittal packages — drawings, data sheets, calculations, and product documentation.
Work collaboratively with mechanical and controls engineers to ensure seamless interdisciplinary design coordination.

Principal Electrical Engineer – Substation Design (Ireland)
Design primary plant layouts and schematics for HV substations, produce equipment specifications, provide engineering design input to major infrastructure projects, and undertake an Owner’s Engineer role on HV substation/Cable and OHL projects. Coordinate across multidisciplinary engineering environments and conduct site visits/inspections to ensure design integrity.
Qualifications
Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Experience in high‑voltage design projects.
Experience with major utilities or developers.
Experience as a designer or project engineer.
Experience developing specifications or detailed designs for substation control systems, transformers, GIS, and AIS switchgear.
Ability to work flexibly across multiple projects.
Experience in technical report writing.
Fluency in English.
Full driving licence and access to a personal vehicle (site visits may be required).
Ideal: experience in multi‑discipline engineering projects, chartered accreditation or pursuit, consultancy experience, reviewing detailed designs and witnessing construction site activities.
