Senior Occupational Therapist Low Secure Mental Health Service Location: Ireland Type: Full-Time, Permanent Salary: Comparable to HSE Payscale About the Role We are seeking a suitably qualified Senior Occupational Therapist to join a newly developed low secure mental health service, working alongside a Basic Grade Occupational Therapist and a multidisciplinary team.
This role is ideal for a clinician with strong leadership skills, forensic mental health experience, and a passion for recovery-oriented care.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Manage a caseload, conducting assessments, evidence-based interventions, and evaluating treatment programmes for individuals with complex mental health needs.
Deliver occupational therapy with a focus on self-care, productivity, and leisure occupations.
Work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team (psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, behaviour specialists, SLTs, and social care staff).
Develop and facilitate individual and group therapy programmes within the mental health unit.
Contribute to individual care planning, risk assessment, and management.
Maintain high-quality documentation, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and reports.
Support staff in implementing occupational therapy recommendations.
Participate in MDT meetings, clinical reviews, and department discussions.
Supervise and support occupational therapy students and junior staff.
Deputise for the Occupational Therapy Manager as required.
Education & Training Complete mandatory training via the organisations Learning Management System.
Attend internal/external conferences and courses relevant to practice.
Engage in clinical supervision and performance appraisals.
Quality Improvement Contribute to strategic planning and departmental goals.
Share knowledge and promote best practices across the service.
Represent the department at local and national levels, presenting at conferences and engaging in research activities.
Health & Safety Promote a safe working environment in line with legislation.
Actively participate in risk management and comply with all relevant policies and standards.
Report incidents/accidents/near misses according to procedures.
Requirements Qualifications: Degree or Masters in Occupational Therapy from a WFOT-accredited programme.
Registration (or pending registration) with CORU.
Experience: At least three years post-qualification experience, ideally in adult mental health or forensic mental health services.
Proven experience in developing and running therapeutic programmes (occupation-based and psycho-educational).
Evidence of ongoing continuous professional development (CPD).
Knowledge & Skills: Understanding of the Judgement Support Framework, individual care planning, and risk management.
Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication, teamworking, and time management skills.
