Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Research Engineer - Computational Specialist ) within UCD School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering. A 2-year Research Engineer position is available at UCD, co-funded by I-Form (a Science Foundation Ireland Research Centre) and Boston Scientific. The role supports Boston Scientific's development of next-generation cardiovascular technologies, including left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) and ultrasonic renal denervation systems. Computational modelling is central to accelerating device design, evaluation, and optimisation. Boston Scientific has a strong track record of integrating simulation into its engineering workflows, using finite element analysis (FEA), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and fluid-structure interaction (FSI) to inform product development and regulatory submissions. The primary objective of this position is to advance Boston Scientific's cardiovascular R&D by developing high-fidelity CFD, FEA, and FSI modelling tools for in vitro and in vivo performance prediction, with an emphasis on LVAD flow optimisation and acoustic-thermal simulation of renal denervation devices.
