Job Description
EHS Officer — Distribution & Supply Chain
Reporting to: Warehouse Manager Location: Hybrid — Office, Site & Home | Travel across the island of Ireland required; occasional UK travel Full driving licence required
The Role
This is a hands‑on EHS role embedded in a distribution and supply chain environment. You will be the safety presence on the floor and the voice of EHS at management level — able to shift between both without losing credibility in either.
The business operates at pace with lean teams. The expectation is not that you will be managed through every challenge — it is that you will identify what needs doing and solve problems using your own initiative.
What You Will Do
Develop, review and maintain risk assessments relevant to warehouse and distribution operations — manual handling, racking, vehicle movements, loading/unloading
Update and maintain the Safety Statement and supporting policies; work toward ISO 45001 compliance
Deliver induction and on‑site training: Manual Handling, Fire Safety, Fire Warden, Chemical Safety
Carry out monthly site inspections and produce structured inspection reports
Manage the contractor management system — review documentation, approve permits, supervise on‑site activity
Conduct H&S audits assessing both compliance and safety culture; produce audit reports and close out findings
Manage the safety observation and near‑miss reporting system through to close‑out
Investigate accidents and incidents; report to the HSA/HSE where required
Carry out DSE, pregnancy, and vulnerable person risk assessments
Manage chemical inventories, SDS records, and associated training documentation
Coordinate external training providers for specialist requirements — forklift, MEWP, working at height
Support and advise management on all H&S matters
Conduct environmental audits and contribute to Environmental Working Group activity
Track and trend carbon emissions data across sites
Manage WEEE reporting obligations
Review and update the Environmental Management System in line with ISO 14001
Requirements
A qualification in Health, Safety & Environmental management or a closely related discipline
Demonstrable experience applying EHS principles in a warehouse, logistics, distribution or supply chain setting
Confident communication skills — comfortable addressing a team on the warehouse floor as well as presenting findings to senior management
Strong written skills — reports and documentation are clear, structured, and fit for audit
The ability to work with initiative in a lean environment where priorities shift and self‑direction is expected
Proficiency in MS Office; accurate record‑keeping is non‑negotiable
Full clean driving licence and willingness to travel regularly across the island of Ireland and occasionally to UK sites
What Would Strengthen Your Application
Experience with ISO 45001 or ISO 14001 implementation or transition
Familiarity with contractor management in a regulated distribution environment
Exposure to carbon tracking or WEEE reporting obligations
NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent
