To be responsible for the management, care, and treatment of service users, to ensure that the optimum standard of care is provided within the designated area(s) of responsibility.
The primary role of the Clinical Nurse Manager 1 (CNM 1) will be one of clinical and professional leadership and development in the nursing team, including the development of nursing staff by means of in-service training, orientation of new staff and arranging for clinical experience and supervision of student nurses where this is appropriate.
The CNM1 Vaccination Infectious Diseases and Sexual Health Services will assist in the appropriate delivery of vaccinations to patients as prescribed by the service clinicians and designated by the service needs of both the Infectious Diseases clinics and the Sexual Health Service clinics.
This will include, but will not be limited to the following vaccinations: Twinrix, Engerix B, Havrix, Gardasil, MPOX, Covid, Flu, Pneumococcal, etc.
The post holder will also support the extension of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccines to high risk groups to include people living with HIV (PLWH) and men who have sex with men (MSM) to reduce the risk of Ano-Genital Warts and HPV related cancers.
· They will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care to the highest professional and ethical standards within the model of nursing care practiced in the Infectious Diseases and Sexual Health Services.
· They will have a role in service planning, co-ordination and management of activity and resources within the clinical area relating to current and future vaccinations programmes.
· They will support the service clinics, with clinical focus of role being flexible depending on current service needs i.e. ID/HIV clinics and Sexual Health service clinics.
· They will participate in the response to any potential emerging vaccination programmes related to outbreaks or global health crises.
· Be responsible for creating a database of all existing eligible patients for the programme and communication with these patients to offer the service.
· Liaise with all ID clinic staff to ensure identification of potential candidates for vaccination.
· Liaise with Primary care teams in Cork/Kerry when required to facilitate appointments for attendance of patients at vaccination clinics.
· Assess, manage and report adverse events and anaphylactic reactions as per National Immunisation Advisory Committee (NIAC) Guidelines.
· Have awareness of HSE Guidelines for Maintenance of Vaccine Cold Chain and responsibility for monitoring and reporting any failures in the process to CNM2 and/or Pharmacist.
· Provide supervision to all staff that may have to administer the vaccine and ensure that all staff are aware of the vaccination programmes conducted within the service and the relevant policies and procedures.
· Responsibility for vaccine data collection and completion of any and all vaccine reporting forms as warranted.
· Ensure that all data is complete, precise, clearly recorded and submitted on a regular basis.
· Preparation of a quarterly report to ADON on progress of any ongoing vaccination programme.
· Further data collection may be necessary as required by National programme leads.
· Annual audit of the uptake of vaccines.
