OverviewThe Ireland Roads team is seeking a Senior Drainage Engineer with extensive postgraduate experience in drainage design for highways, active travel schemes, and other major civil engineering infrastructures. The team is growing and offers excellent opportunities for the right candidate. The successful candidate will lead and help grow a team undertaking flood risk assessments and drainage designs for concept, preliminary and detailed design stages of major national roads, motorways and active travel schemes, including schemes for the National Transport Authority and Local Authorities.The right candidate shall be able to take on significant elements of design with initiative, with some support from the senior specialist in the relevant field. The successful candidate shall be able to obtain and analyse information, report findings through effective communication of project proposals, assessments and intended outcomes.ResponsibilitiesWork as part of an integrated team to deliver high quality engineering services for our clients.Provide technical input to cross‑sector multidisciplinary internal project teams supporting transportation, commercial/residential development and environmental infrastructure projects.Prepare technical reports and effectively communicate outputs to clients.Further develop and broaden the technical capacity of the flooding and drainage team.Provide technical input and design on roads, public transport and active travel projects, including road drainage systems and flood risk management measures using relevant industry software.Apply Transport Infrastructure Ireland, National Transport Authority and other relevant standards.Develop and deliver design solutions, including applications for departures and relaxations from standards, and secure all requisite approvals and consents for projects.Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively and work both independently and collaboratively.Exhibit excellent technical reporting, writing and review skills.Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental legislation and in-house quality assurance standards/processes.What We Will Be Looking For You To DemonstrateThe successful candidate will be degree qualified in civil engineering or another appropriate subject and be a member of an appropriate professional institution. The candidate should be capable of working to tight project deadlines, work comfortably under pressure, and have an open and honest approach. Evidence of good communication and teamwork skills will be sought.A degree in Civil Engineering or another appropriate subject; a postgraduate Level 9 Masters would be advantageous. Incorporated or Chartered Status (AMIEI/MIEI or equivalent) or equivalent demonstrable experience.Experience in flood risk assessments and detailed design & delivery of surface water drainage systems and flood risk measures for major national road development projects and other major civil engineering infrastructures.Excellent working knowledge of drainage principles, SuDs, flood hydrology and hydraulic processes.Clear understanding of the relevant standards and guidelines for highway drainage designs and flood risk assessment methodologies.Significant experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D and ArcGIS.Experience with drainage design and flood modelling software such as MicroDrainage, Causeway Flow, InfoWorks ICM, FloodModeller, TuFlow, HEC-RAS (1D/2D) and HEC-HMS.Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to liaise and coordinate on multi-discipline projects.Proven track record of delivering projects to high quality, on time and within budget, with client and stakeholder engagement.Full, clean driver’s license.What’s In It For YouJoin our close-knit community of talented individuals who share your passion for making a positive impact.
