Job Overview
Join our dynamic Nature team as Principal Marine Ecologist across our UK and Ireland offices (Basingstoke, Manchester, Glasgow, Bristol, Leeds, Birmingham, Cambridge, Dublin). The role offers a flexible hybrid working model and the opportunity to apply your expertise to national and international projects, including high‑profile power and infrastructure schemes, interconnectors, habitat restoration, flood defence, and coastal developments.
Responsibilities
Subject Matter Expert: Provide technical marine ecological and consenting advice, internally and externally. Lead input across projects, including full EIA or DCO development, marine ecology impact assessments, and licence permitting.
Ensure Quality: Deliver high‑quality, compliant deliverables. Demonstrate excellent writing and communication skills to adapt complex scientific information for diverse audiences.
Collaborate: Work with multidisciplinary teams (underwater acoustics, coastal processes, water scientists, marine archaeologists, EIA colleagues) to improve environmental outcomes.
Growth & Business Development: Contribute to winning work for the marine ecology team; prepare technical and fee proposals; present to internal and external audiences; support client liaison.
Project Management: Manage resources, budgets, and progress. Procure and manage specialist subcontractors. Participate in AECOM accredited project‑management training.
Mentoring: Develop and train marine ecology team members; foster a supportive environment.
Qualifications
Comprehensive marine ecological expertise and experience with EIA, HRA, MCZ, WFD impact assessments.
In‑depth knowledge of UK marine consenting and licensing regimes (MMO, NRW, Scottish MD, The Crown Estate). Demonstrated ability to liaise and submit licence applications.
Advanced scientific practice and application to diverse marine projects.
Team coordination, line management, and mentorship skills.
Business development experience – tenders, client presentations.
