St. Joseph's Foundation is a voluntary organisation providing comprehensive services for people with intellectual disabilities. Founded in 1968, the Foundation operates in the North Cork and South West Limerick region, offering day services, residential, respite care, and home support in locations such as Charleville, Dromina, Newtownshandrum, Buttevant, Newmarket, Mitchelstown, Mallow, Ballylanders, Ballyagran, Bruree, Bruff, Croom, Dromcollogher, Granagh, Kilmallock, Liskennett and other nearby areas. The Foundation is a lead agency in Cork Kerry Community Healthcare for the North West Cork and North East Cork Children\'s Disability Network Teams.
The posts are permanent, full-time, part-time or locum in Residential Services.
Job Title
Staff Nurse
Reporting and Relationships
Reports to: CNM1, CNM2, Person In Charge (PIC), Area Manager. Liaises with volunteers, staff as assigned, all staff in Adult/Children\'s Services and the Multi-disciplinary Team.
Location and Hours
Location: South Limerick. Commitment: Residential Services (up to 37.5 hours per week). Initial assignment includes rostered duty including 7/14 duty as per the service rosters and mobility programme. Initial hourly rate: As per contract.
Role Purpose
To listen to, learn from, support and work to achieve the priorities of the service users and to monitor and meet their physical/mental/social/emotional and behavioural needs in compliance with relevant regulations and standards that apply to residents in designated centres for persons with disabilities.
Main Duties (Responsibilities)
* Responsible for the general well-being of service users in care.
* Provide physical, psychological and social care for service users.
* Recognize and report physical/social/emotional problems and assist in implementing programmes to counteract them.
* Deliver care in a professional manner and in line with HIQA requirements in residential settings.
* Set care for the day-to-day needs of residents in compliance with the Health Care Act 2007 regulations, the Childcare Act 1991 and all relevant regulations and standards for Children in care.
* Foster parental/family involvement and liaise with parents/guardians/family members; ensure visitors are welcomed and treated with courtesy.
* Create and maintain a therapeutic environment, ensuring activities relate to the strengths and needs of individuals and adhere to normalization principles.
* Incorporate expertise of others to enhance care quality; design, implement and coordinate programmes in education, training and work; liaise with Line Manager/PIC regarding work opportunities for service users where required.
* Foster integration and provide social/leisure opportunities within the local community in line with the Foundation\'s philosophy.
* Maintain records and reports (e.g., medication administration, daily progress notes, nursing notes, psychiatry reviews).
* Be familiar with other nursing programmes within adult/children\'s services and provide support/relief as requested by the PIC/Area Manager/Head of Client Services.
* Responsible for purchasing and budgeting household monies and making local purchases where possible.
* Establish and maintain respectful, empowering relationships with residents to promote independence.
Leadership
* Manage, develop and support staff individually and as a team, including induction, supervisory support and training in line with Foundation practices and the Health Care Act 2007 regulations.
* Lead and develop team members in supporting Person Centred Plans and problem-solving to overcome outcomes and barriers in PCP delivery.
* Conduct goal setting and development with support staff.
* Liaise with multidisciplinary team; attend meetings, case conferences and in-service training as required.
* Convene and attend review meetings of individuals\' progress in consultation with the Line Manager/PIC.
* Contribute to the overall nursing input within the Foundation.
* Ensure staff are aware of and adhere to Foundation policies and procedures.
* Develop and maintain effective formal and informal communication with residents, colleagues, families and stakeholders.
* Promote dignity at work and respect in duties.
* Hold supervision meetings with support staff as directed by the PIC.
* Ensure staff establish and maintain relationships with residents based on respect and equality and promote independence.
General
* Promote a positive and respectful awareness of learning disability in the community.
* Be familiar with developments in intellectual disabilities/HIQA standards and other relevant guidelines.
* Act as a Key Worker for service users as required.
* Driving is required; operate the Foundation\'s transport (minibus). A full clean driving licence and indemnification of the Foundation on motor insurance policy are required. Evidence to be provided to HR annually.
