I am seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Health and Safety Officer to join my client, a successful main contractor in Galway. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all on-site activities comply with current health and safety regulations, company policies, and industry best practices. This role is vital in promoting a culture of safety and ensuring the well-being of all site personnel and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities:

Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with statutory obligations and internal procedures.

Identify potential hazards and implement risk mitigation strategies.

Prepare, review, and update Health & Safety documentation, including risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and safety plans.

Lead incident investigations, prepare reports, and recommend corrective/preventive actions.

Deliver health and safety inductions and training to staff, subcontractors, and visitors.

Liaise with site management, contractors, and relevant regulatory bodies (e.g., HSA).

Maintain and monitor records of safety statistics and ensure accurate reporting.

Drive a culture of continuous improvement in health and safety practices.
Qualifications & Experience:

Minimum of a Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or related qualification (e.g., IOSH/NEBOSH).

2+ years' experience in a similar role within the construction industry.

Thorough knowledge of Irish health and safety legislation.

Strong communication, report-writing, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities across active sites.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and health & safety reporting systems.
Desirable:

Membership of a recognized professional body (e.g., IOSH, CIF).

Experience in civil engineering or large-scale commercial construction projects.
