About the Role
The Employment team in Maples is seeking to hire an ambitious and high calibre associate to work as part of the growing Maples Employment Group. The Maples Employment team has been led by Karen Killalea, Partner since 2019. Karen has reformed and grown the Employment practice since she joined the Firm. Karen is Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee in Maples. Karen is also a member of Maples ManCo, the Firm's Management Committee.
The team ordinarily consists of a senior associate, a mid level associate and a trainee. The team has a large volume of complex, challenging and interesting work. The work that the team currently does spans the following areas:
* People Risk management situations (managing workplace investigations, protected disclosures investigations, performance and disciplinary issues, exits and severances)
* Litigation – WRC, Labour Court and Circuit Court litigation – board, shareholder and senior C suite disputes;
* Mediations (High Court/WRC)
* Corporate Transactions (share sale, asset sale (TUPE) vendor due diligence, buyer due diligence, negotiation of transaction documents etc)
* Advisory (policies, handbooks, contracts etc)
* Industrial Relations Issues – WRC/Labour Court – SEOs, industrial action
* Immigration – Corporate Immigration practice
* Benefits (Pensions and insured benefits)
The Employment team in Maples is a full-service employment team that works on a very rich variety of employment mandates which are contentious, advisory and transaction support. As a top tier financial services firm, Maples has developed considerable expertise advising and supporting international and well-known institutional financial services clients including advising on employment law matters in regulated firms.
All team members get involved in business development, meeting clients and participating in webcasts and seminars. There is an enormous opportunity to learn and progress on the Maples Employment team. The new associate (ideally either NQ or up to 1 year PQE) has an opportunity to get direct exposure and work directly with an experienced associate and partner together with the support of a dedicated trainee. The team is in growth mode and therefore taking the time to really take care of clients and build relationships is important.
EXPERIENCE
What You Bring
Applicants should have up to NQ-1 years' post qualification experience as an Employment Lawyer, ideally gained within a top-tier law corporate law firm including a seat in employment during the traineeship. It is essential that all candidates have a strong academic background, with excellent written communication and drafting skills. The successful candidates will also have outstanding technical skills, together with the ability to build relationships with clients and colleagues and work well in a team environment.
