A leading engineering and project delivery consultancy specialising in the Life Sciences sector across Ireland and Europe. Their mission is to design and deliver world-class pharmaceutical and biotech facilities for pharmaceutical manufacturers.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer to take technical ownership of large-scale CAPEX pharmaceutical projects. You will lead mechanical design teams through concept, FEED, detailed design and commissioning phases, ensuring GMP-compliant HVAC systems, process utilities, and cleanroom environments are delivered to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead mechanical engineering scope on major EPCM projects (€200M+) including cleanroom HVAC design to GMP standards (EU Annex 1, ISO 14644), process utilities (WFI, clean steam, compressed air), and piping systems
* Manage and mentor mechanical design teams, coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams, and interface directly with clients
* Develop mechanical basis of design, equipment specifications, P&IDs, and oversee 3D model coordination (Revit MEP/Navisworks)
* Oversee vendor selection, FAT attendance, commissioning leadership, and cleanroom qualification through to handover
* Ensure compliance with Irish/EU regulations, GMP standards, and client specifications while maintaining budget and schedule control
Your Profile
* Level 8 Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years' experience in pharmaceutical/biotech projects, including minimum 5 years in a lead mechanical role on large CAPEX EPCM/EPC projects
* Strong expertise in cleanroom HVAC design, pharmaceutical utilities, and GMP environments with proven delivery of greenfield or brownfield facilities
* Proficiency with design tools (AutoCAD, Revit MEP) and deep understanding of GMP requirements, EU Annex 1, and commissioning/qualification protocols
* Excellent leadership and communication skills. Chartered Engineer (CEng) status desirable
