Job Overview Carry out all maintenance related duties in all areas of the premises. The Maintenance Operative is responsible for painting, decorating, gardening, waste disposal, carpentry, heating, plumbing, electrics, construction and general repairs. Ensure all tasks are completed in compliance within the Health, Safety and Fire regulations, best practice and available resources. Establish and maintain relationships with residents that are based on respect and equality. Reporting to Person in Charge or delegated person and will work under the direct supervision of the Operations Manager.
Duties & Responsibilities will include, but not limited to Collaborate with the management team daily to prioritise maintenance needs for the premises. Conduct weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance checks and audits, addressing corrective actions within specified time frames and conducting necessary follow-ups. Perform cleaning, repairing, replacing, servicing, painting, varnishing, and ordering or collecting supplies, furniture, equipment, and systems for all areas of the Nursing Home as needed. Undertake gardening duties, maintaining grass at the appropriate height throughout the year, and trimming and pruning hedges and shrubs in the correct season, if applicable. Manage domestic and hazardous waste disposal, ensuring bins are regularly collected, cleaned, and maintained in a hygienic manner. Coordinate with contractors and have a comprehensive understanding of maintenance contracts. Ensure continual compliance with Health, Safety, and Fire regulations. Oversee service and product guarantees and warranties. Report incidents/hazards to the appropriate parties, ensure corrective action is taken, and log the information in the maintenance log. Be fully available to support, assist, and oversee any emergency maintenance situations on the premises. Assist and support the management team during internal and external audits/inspections.
Must be flexible and available to work various days, evenings, and weekend shifts as required.
Education & Qualifications Current and valid Infection Control, Manual Handling & Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults Certificates (training can be provided if required).
Skills & Experience Good working knowledge of painting, decorating, gardening, waste disposal, carpentry, heating, plumbing, electrics, construction and general repairs is essential. Previous working experience within a residential care home setting is desirable. Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces and be physically capable of carrying, loading and storing furniture and equipment in a safe manner. Ability to use hand and power tools and operate safely in any environments that may be cold, warm, with noise, dust or areas containing domestic and hazardous waste materials, etc. Full Irish Driver's License is essential.
