Job Overview
Our client is a premier builders' merchant providing a wide range of building materials, plumbing products and DIY supplies to professional tradespeople and DIY customers. They are seeking a Heavy Building Materials Supervisor to manage procurement, inventory control, supplier liaison, customer service and reporting for a high-volume supply operation.
Responsibilities
* Manage the procurement, stock control and coordination of heavy building materials.
* Monitor stock levels and reorder materials to maintain adequate supply.
* Liaise with suppliers to secure competitive pricing and timely deliveries.
* Conduct regular inventory checks and resolve any stock discrepancies.
* Coordinate with the accounts team to ensure smooth processing of invoices and payments.
* Serve as the main point of contact for customers, addressing inquiries and handling complaints.
* Process orders accurately and efficiently, ensuring timely fulfilment.
* Assist with preparing quotations and sales proposals in collaboration with sales reps.
* Follow up with customers to ensure satisfaction and resolve post‑sale issues.
* Maintain a ledger of accounts and manage billing‑related tasks.
* Maintain accurate transaction records and assist with financial reporting.
* Support senior management with administrative tasks and report preparation.
* Ensure smooth coordination of material deliveries and logistics.
* Update the stock control system and maintain data accuracy.
Requirements
* Proven experience in a supervisory or management role within the building materials or construction industry.
* Strong knowledge of inventory management and stock control practices.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, for data management and reporting.
* Familiarity with account management software and financial processes.
* Ability to multitask and prioritise in a dynamic environment.
* Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant industry experience, preferably in a supervisory capacity.
* Experience with quotations, order processing and customer communication is required.
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
* Customer‑focused with a problem‑solving mindset and ability to work independently or within a team.
