Orange Recruitment are seeking a Mechanical Cost Manager to oversee the commercial, financial, and cost-planning elements of mechanical packages across a portfolio of building services projects. Working closely with project managers, mechanical engineers, design teams, and clients, you will ensure all mechanical installations are accurately quantified, procured, costed, and managed from tender stage through to project handover. This role is ideal for a professional looking to advance their expertise in mechanical cost management while contributing to the successful delivery of technically complex, energy-efficient, and high-performance building services projects. You will play a key role within the commercial team, supporting best practice and continuous improvement across the mechanical division. Responsibilities: Carry out detailed measurement, quantification, and cost analysis of all mechanical systems including HVAC, pipework, plant, ductwork, public health systems, and specialist installations from drawings, specifications, models, and site information. Manage the commercial and contractual aspects of mechanical packages throughout the project lifecycle: tendering, procurement, installation, commissioning, and final account. Prepare mechanical cost plans, budgets, valuations, variations, cash-flow forecasts, and monthly commercial reports. Lead procurement activities for mechanical subcontractors and suppliers, including issuing enquiries, reviewing tenders, negotiating terms, preparing recommendations, and administering contracts. Work closely with mechanical engineers and site teams to validate progress, confirm installed quantities, manage change, and maintain accurate financial tracking. Communicate clearly with clients, consultants, and internal stakeholders, providing updates on cost, risk, programme impacts, and commercial strategy related to mechanical works. Support value engineering exercises by identifying cost-effective mechanical solutions, system alternatives, and opportunities to enhance energy performance while reducing lifecycle costs. Ensure all commercial processes follow company procedures and comply with relevant industry standards, contract requirements, and legislation. Participate in mechanical design reviews, site surveys, technical coordination meetings, and commissioning workshops to support commercial and technical decision-making. Requirements: Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Building Services Engineering, Construction Economics, or a related discipline. Minimum 5 years' experience in a mechanical cost management or mechanical quantity surveying role within building services or M&E contracting. Strong technical knowledge of mechanical building services systems, installation methods, plant and equipment, and associated commercial management practices. Excellent analytical, negotiation, measurement, and financial reporting skills. Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and work proactively in a fast-paced environment. High level of IT proficiency, including Excel, estimating and measurement software, and digital construction tools (BIM, CDE platforms, etc.).
