Site General Manager – Newtownabbey

Excel Recruitment are seeking an experienced Site General Manager to lead a high-volume distribution centre in Newtownabbey. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for the overall management of the site – driving performance, ensuring compliance, and delivering strategic business objectives across its UK and Ireland freight operations.
Requirements
1. 5+ years in a senior managerial role within logistics, transport, or freight
2. Proven experience managing high-volume, time-critical operations
3. Proven ability to manage site finances, including full responsibility for profit and loss performance
4. Deep understanding of transport legislation and compliance
5. Experience in express/road freight and cross-border logistics
6. Strategic thinker with strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
7. Demonstrated ability to lead, engage, and develop high-performing teams
Responsibilities
8. As the Site General Manager, you will provide overall leadership and strategic direction
9. Manage full site operations to ensure safety, compliance, and efficiency
10. Make strategic decisions that impact cost, revenue, and overall business performance
11. Build and maintain strong customer relationships, resolving issues promptly
12. Oversee driver, vehicle, and site compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements
13. Lead customs clearance processes, import/export flows, and cross-border operations
14. Plan for seasonal peaks and optimise labour, stock, and transport resources
15. Analyse data and KPIs to improve delivery, turnaround times, and service levels
16. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and high performance
17. Develop and support team growth, engagement, and accountability
