The Role
Are you an experienced and ambitious ecologist looking to make a real difference across infrastructure and development projects across Ireland? Verde Environmental Consultants is seeking an enthusiastic associate or senior level Ecologist to join our dynamic, multi-discipline team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to get their consultancy career going or for a seasoned ecologist to take that next step in their career. The position would suit a motivated, practical, and adaptable individual who has the ambition to work within a progressive and innovative team, providing sound advice and practical solutions to clients, in conjunction with the wider Verde team. Moreover, the ideal candidate will gain exposure to a diverse range of projects across the renewable energy, circular economy, and civil infrastructure sectors.
Key Responsibilities
* Field Surveys - Assisting with and / or complete ecological field surveys across a range of habitats and species groups.
* Project Management – Lead small to medium-sized ecological projects and coordinate fieldwork and baseline assessments. Support project delivery in line with timelines, budgets, and QA protocols
* Report Writing - Review and author high-quality ecological assessments, including AA Screenings, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), Natura Impact Statements (NIS), and biodiversity chapters for EIARs.
* Communication - Mentor junior staff and support their professional development
* Business Development - Engage with clients, planning authorities, and statutory stakeholders.
Requirements
* A Bachelors or Masters degree in ecology, zoology, environmental science, or a related discipline with at least 2 – 4 year's experience. Eligibility or current membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEEM).
* Demonstrated knowledge of Irish and EU ecological legislation, planning systems, and best practice. Knowledge of the EU Habitats Directive, knowledge of terrestrial and/or aquatic habitats, knowledge of Irish flora and fauna (and associated identification skills), bird identification skills, and/or alien invasive species identification skills .
* Experience with GIS and mapping software.
* Familiarity with ecological databases and planning portals.
* Field survey experience (e.g., bats, birds, habitats).
* Specialism in a protected species, habitat, or regulatory methodology.
* Project and team management experience. Stakeholder engagement skills
* Strong technical report writing skills with attention to detail, as well as excellent communication and time management skills. Must be Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel).
* Full clean Irish or EU driving licence (essential).
* Work outdoors and travel to project sites as required.
