Applications are invited for an appointment as Lecturer in Philosophy (Philosophy of Technology) at University of Galway. The appointment is tenable from January 1st, 2026.
Philosophy at University of Galway is a vibrant discipline with a strong commitment to engaged teaching and research. We are seeking an excellent academic who will play a key role in advancing our teaching and research portfolios. The appointee will contribute to the design, teaching and administration of philosophy of technology modules on the Joint Honours Bachelor of Arts programme and associated programmes. They will also contribute to postgraduate teaching, coordination, administration and research supervision in Philosophy and in programmes cross-listed with other disciplines.
This post is strategically aligned to the newly formed Institute for Creativity at the University of Galway and will therefore provide important leadership in developing the theoretical framework and grounding for research and teaching in the area of creative technologies.
The research areas of the discipline include public philosophy and ethics, Philosophy for children (P4C), philosophy of science and post-Kantian European philosophy. The appointee must have a PhD in philosophy or a cognate discipline and a strong teaching and research profile in the philosophy of technology. The appointee will also be expected to have teaching competence in other areas required within the discipline, with preference shown to those with competencies in one or more of the following: the philosophy of mind, epistemology, feminism, post-Kantian European philosophy, non-Western philosophy and applied ethics.

The full-time hours of work for academic staff are 39 hours per week.
Salary: € 63,624 to € 101,498 p.a. This appointment will be made on the Lecturer scale in line with current Government pay policy and in accordance with the terms and conditions of the University’s Remuneration policy. QA321-Updated-PP-Remuneration.pdf (universityofgalway.ie)
