Health Care Assistant - Mercy Homecare Service Permanent Contract, Full Time Hours The Mercy Homecare service provides Health Care Assistants (HCAs) to deliver quality personal care to patients in the community.It enables the patient to be safely and effectively discharged into the community while they await the HSE to appoint a care agency to deliver their home care package. The Homecare HCA will report to the Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (CNM2) or designated officer. The Homecare HCA will be Accountable to the Assistant Director of Nursing, Nursing Support Services, and the Director of Nursing. Responsibilities Include: Assist under the direction of the nurse in the provision of quality service by promoting and adopting the Health Service Executives philosophy of care, working in line with national and locally devised policies and regulations. Demonstrate motivation and appreciate the importance of providing a quality service for patients and the public. Respect patients, their families and colleagues as individuals showing dignity, courtesy, and professionalism always. Act as an advocate for patients. Support the implementation and evaluation of quality standards and improvement initiatives. Work within own role, adhering to current legislation, policies, procedures protocols and guidelines. In accordance with Health and Safety at Work policy, observe all rules relating to Health and Safety and Conduct at Work and to use any equipment provided in a safe and responsible manner. Understand and adhere to all relevant HSE policies, guidelines, and procedures, comply with health and safety, infection control and risk management procedures, comply with statutory obligations. Attend training courses as required and only undertake the duties related to patient care for which they are trained. Maintain a strict code of personal and general hygiene in the workplace as per work schedules and existing policies and procedures. Eligibility Criteria - Candidates must have at the closing date for receipt of applications: The personal competence and capacity to properly discharge the duties of the role. Full, Clean Driving Licence required. Acute hospital experience desirable (but not essential). Be currently employed as a Health Care Assistant or a comparable role, OR have the relevant Health Skills Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI / formerly FETAC) Level 5 Qualification, OR have an equivalent / comparable, relevant Health Care Qualification as outlined in the QQI NARIC Ireland Framework. Note that the following are the relevant Health Skills QQI Level 5 Qualifications: Healthcare Support; Nursing Studies; Community Care; Health Service Skills; and Community Health Services. Further note that a full QQI/FETAC Level 5 Major Award requires a minimum of 120 credits/8 Modules - a Component Certificate will not suffice.
