The business combines the stability, profile and purpose of a well-established Irish organisation with the backing, expertise and international perspective of a leading European group.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HR Business Partner who enjoys working in a complex, regulated and unionised environment, and who wants to join a stable organisation offering strong career progression, excellent benefits and ongoing investment in learning and development.
Based in the heart of Dublin city centre, this role offers the opportunity to work as part of a high-quality HR team, supporting managers and employees across employee relations, industrial relations, people governance and operational HR.
Role Overview
As HR Business Partner, you will act as a trusted HR advisor to the business, providing practical and commercially sound support across a wide range of employee relations and industrial relations matters.
This is a key role within a regulated and unionised environment, working closely with managers, HR colleagues and union representatives to ensure people matters are handled professionally, consistently and in line with Irish employment legislation, internal policy and best practice.
The successful candidate will support managers through complex ER matters, contribute to constructive union engagement, strengthen HR governance and processes, and play an important role in supporting a positive, compliant and well‑managed employee experience.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will provide expert HR guidance to managers across a broad range of employee relations matters, supporting fair, consistent and well‑documented people decisions.
You will advise on and manage end‑to‑end ER casework, including grievances, disciplinaries, investigations, absence management, performance and capability matters, ensuring all cases are handled in line with Irish employment legislation, internal policies, regulatory requirements and best practice.
You will play an important role in supporting industrial relations activity and day‑to‑day engagement with recognised trade unions.
This will include preparing documentation, supporting meetings and discussions, advising managers and HR colleagues on union‑related matters, and helping to maintain constructive, professional relationships with union representatives.
You will also monitor emerging IR themes, trends and risks, supporting proactive and solutions‑focused outcomes.
As part of the wider HR team, you will support internal and external audit activity, helping to ensure HR processes, documentation and controls are audit‑ready.
You will contribute to the development and review of HR policies, procedures and processes, while providing oversight across HR operational activity where ER, IR, compliance or people risk considerations are involved.
You will also act as an escalation point for HR queries requiring judgement, interpretation or careful stakeholder management, and will support sensitive or complex contractual changes in collaboration with HR Operations.
In addition, you will work closely with colleagues across HR Operations, Reward, HRIS, Learning & Development, Internal Communications and Talent Acquisition, contributing to broader people initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be an experienced HR professional with strong employee relations experience and exposure to industrial relations, ideally gained within a unionised, regulated or complex operating environment.
You will bring sound judgement, strong communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with managers, employees, HR colleagues and union representatives.
This role would suit someone who enjoys practical HR business partnering, complex ER casework, stakeholder management and contributing to a high‑performing HR function.
You will ideally hold a degree in HR, Business, Employment Law or a related discipline, with a CIPD or legal qualification considered advantageous.
You will have strong experience in an HR Business Partner, ER Specialist, HR Advisor or similar HR role, along with a solid working knowledge of Irish employment legislation and HR best practice.
Experience managing or advising on ER casework, including grievances, disciplinaries, investigations, absence, performance and capability, will be important.
Exposure to industrial relations and union engagement is highly desirable, while experience in a regulated, governance‑led, unionised or compliance‑focused environment would also be a strong advantage.
The successful candidate will be calm, pragmatic and solutions‑focused, with strong professional judgement and discretion when handling sensitive people matters.
You will be confident advising stakeholders, able to balance ER, IR, operational and business priorities, and comfortable working in a role where attention to detail, confidentiality, documentation and GDPR compliance are important.
