Waterford Castle Resort is uniquely situated on a private 310-acre island, accessed exclusively via our private ferry service. The resort combines luxury accommodation, fine dining, and a world-class golf course with the charm and tranquility of island life. Our ferry service is the vital link to and from the mainland, and we are looking for a reliable, experienced Ferry Pilot/Deck Hand to join our dedicated team.
Position Summary
The Ferry Pilot/Deck Hand plays a key role in the safe, efficient, and professional operation of the Waterford Castle ferry. The ideal candidate will have previous experience operating or assisting with the operation of small commercial vessels and be committed to maintaining high safety and customer service standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Safely operate the ferry between the mainland and the island in all weather conditions.
* Ensure the safe boarding and disembarkation of passengers and vehicles.
* Carry out daily inspections of the vessel and report any maintenance or safety issues.
* Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of the ferry.
* Communicate clearly with resort staff, guests, and other crew members.
* Uphold all marine safety regulations and resort policies.
* Provide a friendly and professional welcome to guests, enhancing their overall experience.
Requirements
* Prior experience working on boats or ferries is essential.
* Relevant marine certifications are highly desirable.
* Strong knowledge of water safety procedures and vessel operations.
* Good physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and holidays.
* A team player with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
* Familiarity with local waters (River Suir area) is an advantage
