The Flatbush YMCA is seeking a Gym Monitor who will be responsible for overseeing the successful operation of sports, games, and/or activities in the gymnasium. They will provide a high degree of member service through a professional relationship with participating members and ensure a positive and safe user experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide orientation and instruction on proper sports equipment usage to members and guests.
Provide a positive experience to all members and guests.Provide outstanding service by initiating a professional relationship with members regarding their needs, concerns, and questions, and acting as an agent to accommodate those needs/concerns.
Assist members in sports programming and open play.
Understand basic sports principles and be aware of current sports programs and trends.
Monitor the gymnasium to ensure compliance with YMCA policies and procedures.
Provide members with opportunities that will increase their involvement, sense of belonging, and ownership of the YMCA.
Perform equipment inspections and report results to the supervisor.
Maintain cleanliness and order in the gymnasium.
Obtain shift coverage when unable to report to work.
Make phone calls to members as requested by the supervisor.
Maintain and monitor teen hours.
Operate the scoreboard or keep score of games that are taking place.
Monitor games and free play.
Actively participate in training sessions and designated meetings.
Have a thorough knowledge of branch emergency procedures and take appropriate action in emergency situations.
Screen participants at the gymnasium’s entrance to ensure that access is granted to the correct individuals when appropriate.
Maintain sign-in/out sheets during games.
Complete incident reports within 24 hours.
Support the community and promote special events as needed.
Desired Skills & Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Experience working in a sports environment
Current Adult CPR and First Aid certifications.
Knowledge of Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y and Foundations of Listen First.
Must be available on Fridays from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
